Hi,
I have just bought a 2014 MC Mondeo 2.0L Diesel Wagon and tried to do my first service on it during the weekend. Everything went ok until it was time for bleeding the brakes. My problem is there doesn't seem to be any bleed valve on either of the rear brakes nor the front drivers. The only one I could find was on the front passenger (very obviously sticking out with its dust cover on). Am I missing something with the brakes on these cars? What service manual do people use for the MC? Thanks btw: a few niggling things from the service - can't get a socket to the oil filter housing (only a 27mm spanner), - can't get a trolley jack in far enough to reach the front crossmember to initially jack up the car (had to use emergency jack at the side then put car stand next to it), - having to take bottom tray off to drain oil. |

You can download the Ford Factory Workshop manual from https://www.motorcraftservice.com/Ho....com%3A1402%2F The 72 hours at US$21.95 will be more than enough time for what you need. Note each page is barcoded to the subscriber that downloaded it; so no sharing unless you want to take on Ford's lawyers over copyright breaches. The workshop manual advises the system is of a diagonally split circuit design with each pair diagonally opposed front and rear calipers on the same circuits and bleed nipples on the two front calipers adjacent to their supply brake hose. It's also worth subscribing to Alan Howatt's You Tube Channel (it's free); he looks after a fleet of Mondeo Taxis. I avoid using the subframe for jacking.
From the owner's manual: Jacking and lifting points CAUTION Use only the specified jacking points. If you use other positions, you may damage the body, steering, suspension, engine, braking system or the fuel lines. This may seem a precaution for beginners but the sub frame and cross brace are not like they used to be. They don't look strong enough to me. It' also mentioned in the service manual. See also: https://talkford.com/community/topic...0-jack-stands/ I use one trolley jack each side at the designated jacking points on the sill. Problem is getting a safety stand in. In reference to jacking: I bought a Haynes manual for the 2007-2014 car and it mentions to use a trolley jack at the frame behind the engine and then use car stands under the sills. One thing I've been looking at is a portable scissor lift but currently don't have the space. It is the Haynes manual that doesn't show things like the fuel filter in the engine bay (2.0L Diesel), or much information for the brake bleeding (apart from the order). I emailed Haynes and they stated the manual is based on the UK version and that there might be differences between the UK and Aussie versions of the car. I've been watching many of Alan's videos and some of his cars have the fuel filter in the engine bay (contradictory information from Haynes). Unfortunately I haven't found a video of his about brake bleeding yet (I keep getting stopped to watch other videos as I'm scrolling down). The custom oil filter spanner looks great - something I can easily make up myself. @aussiblue With access for 72 hours, is the manual printable? ie: am I able to print what I need in that time? Still trying to work out the brake bleeding at the moment. |

The weight of the engine and transmission is carried by the subframe which in turn hangs from the unibody which
then sits on the strut bearings you can see under the bonnet. The subframe therefore is not necessarily designed to take the full weight of the car. The vehicle depicted in reference 9 of the Haynes manual is not a Mondeo.. It's a generic cut and paste. Maybe it depends on the particular vehicle, but I wouldn't risk it on the mondeo. As for the brake bleed nipples I can only suggest taking another look. If they're not there I guess there wouldn't have any brakes either . Let's know how you go. I had to take the front wheels off again today as both steering rack boots had come off the rack (was just cable tied). I ended up putting hose clamps on to get them tighter.
Anyway, had a closer look at the drivers calliper. Got the phone out to see behind and found the problem with the missing bleed valve. It had been sheered off. I suspect the rears have been sheered off too. Has anyone experienced this before? Any ideas to get them it? Use an easy out? Where would I get replacement values from? Sorry with all the questions. A very annoying situation. Thanks. |

Your Ford dealer should carry them but bleed screws are often fairly generic and are made or sold by various parts companies like Bosch, Tridon, Protex and Kilkenny as well as brake parts specialists like Bendix, Alcon and Brakequip so Repco etc may also be able to help you. Ditto with any brake shop. If you know the size it will help; see https://www.brakehose.com.au/product.../bleed-screws/ and https://brakequip.com/products/hardware/bleed-screws/ for example.
