Question AU XR6 VCT Series III HELP Needed

Whats the story with the Exhaust on these?

My Boss has a 2002 FORD FALCON XR6 VCT, AUIII, 4D SEDAN, 4A, 4.0L, 6cyl

He got it serviced and Ford have told him that his exhaust has cracks in it and needs replaced - they quoted him $3,500 fitted as it has 3 cats and the like

Part No. AUTVE-5230A $1,410
Part No. AU2TVE-5K214B $1,780

ANYWAY he has decided that he wont be paying the $3500 fitted

He went to the local exhaust joint and they said they could put a single system on with muffler and one cat for about $600 but he would loose about 10% power

He does not want to loose power, do you have to have the Ford std system?
What other options does he have?

I know alot of you guys have used other systems - what do you recommend?

Any help would be appreciated

I wouldn't think it would lose power with an aftermarket exhaust with one muffler.

I've got a Redback exhaust (non-XR, non VCT motor), and it's quite good for what I paid for it.

Tell them to speak to G&D Performance. Pacemaker Extractors & Cat-Back exhaust. 1/3 of the price & more power.

Exactly.

The facts are that the VCT factory exhaust is a twin system that has 1 cat, 2 mufflers and 1 resonator. Converting it to a single 2.5" exhaust system will actually gain 10% power if anything. Ignore whatever Ford said, go and see G&D and you will get a superior result (tell them you are from aufalcon and get 5% off too). Even keeping the stock factory manifold and cat will still see some improvements (not 10%) and certainly no losses.

I just went with a set of paccies. Hi Flow Cat, Red back muffler. No resonator. $3,500 is pretty steep

Well thanks guys, I will pass on the info to my boss.

He lives in Monbulk so I dont think he will be going to Cranbourne G&D as it will be too far, although I will recommend it.

I just didnt know if you had to have something similar to the std system for the car to have the same performance
