g'day guys,
I have found a cheap early model fairlane stereo. Will it fit in my late model series II XR fascia? If not, which ones are interchangable?

The shape of the units doesnt change from series to series IIRC, some are single DIN as opposed to AUII onwards when they all went double DIN though.
I think you may strike compatibility issues if putting an S1 unit into anything else but someone may be able to confirm that. Why are you bothering anyway? Decent headunit is under $200 now, youd be mad to even bother with the stock one.

i just wanna use the face of it to cut up to make a surround for my double din dvd player, so it sits flush and fill in the gaps around it

Au1 has different curve angle to au2. Side measurements are the same. Connector loom is wired different so wont function correctly.

as i said, i just wanna make a shroud for the double din unit i have in there, so it doesnt need to be connected, ill just be using the face of the stock stereo.
