Need a new modem/router

Hi

Need a new modem and wifi router and was wondering with the wifi6 system what you can do about internet through it as all the models only seem to be a router

Is there just wired modems you can buy from asus or tp-link that you can plug into those high performance routers

Looking for minimum mesh wifi even if you buy the base and add later and have internet as well.

Have following models in mind

Asus

RT-AX82U
RT-AX88U

What modem could you buy that is just a modem or a good cheap modem router that you could turn off wifi and use the wifi6 from asus or tp-link

Also have this in mind from asus DSL-AX82U and notice it’s wifi6 modem router and is mesh, could you just buy that for now and add mesh spots later

Also have the archer ax73 from tplink in mind as well but need a modem for it

Seemingly you already know a bit about Modems and Routers.

what service are you using ie: Telstra? they normally provide the modem and router as part of the package

Had a modem just a cheap one from nbn that stopped and got a new one a couple years ago and now may need a new one and want to try upgrade to wifi6 or atleast mesh system

What modem can you buy that’s just a modem that you can plug into wan port on your choice of router

netgear dm200 in bridged mode into a mikrotik router. this is for fttn (damn crappy vlan100 connections!)

Just installed this at work and I will be getting a mikrotik for home. Home Wifi requirements are fulfilled with ubiquity gear. currently have ubiquiti in-wall HD's.

What’s the clues and what do you lot experience to know when it’s time to get property and house of your own and/or live by yourself even if it’s just a shed and part time house of your own meaning have a decent shed and stay there part time to start with.

If you would like to buy and don’t want to spend nearly as much as you would paying off something you own when you’re limited to what you can do to place what do people do to just hang on until they can buy

Also sometimes you have a busy day working and you get home and you just want to do your own thing without being bothered by others

Reason for asking is that am at age where am starting to want different to the other household members and you don’t always want what they want and same the other way.

Back to the modem/router, if the other members don’t want the router you want or other way around is buying a second wifi router of your own plugging it into the existing router and creating your own wifi and plug the wifi router into existing modem/router and share same internet going to be a problem.

If only there was enough room on property to have a flat then could have ran a ethernet cable over to it and had own wifi and shared internet.

Am happy living at current place and whatever outcome is that place will still be the primary one for a while atleast

Living by yourself means being responsible for quite a lot.

These are some clues;

You have saved up some money to pay for rental bond or a deposit on a house
You are good at paying bills on time
You can keep track of when bills are due (telephone, rates, insurance, water, electricity, and so on)

There is a lot to unpack in your question. I would not rush out to buy a new wireless router just yet.

Before jumping to a solution, what is the problem you are trying to solve?

Is the internet too slow?

Are there too many people in the house using the internet at the same time?

Are you having problems with getting a good WiFi signal?

Have you tried to connect a LAN cable directly between your computer/laptop and a spare port on the back of the router? If this solves the problem, it might give some hints as to the next step.

Also if at cabins and you want to have a 4g modem and also a wifi reciever to use at places that have wifi and be able to create your own can you use a hub and connect the 4g modem and cpe ethernet that’s used to pick up parks wifi when there’s wifi and plug either into wan port or both if hub is used

In other words do you use wan port or any lan port in a wifi router when using as a access point

If I understand the question correctly, you are also wanting the WiFi router to be switched into "wireless bridge" mode. This is not simple. It typically means going deep into the router settings to turn it from a server into a client.

EDIT: I should add, for the cost and the hassle involved, most people prefer to run tethered to their mobile phone.

Almost anything is an option if you get the right gear and configure it properly, but most residential-grade equipment isn't particularly verbose when it comes to configuration options.
What is it that you're actually wanting? The option of using both 4G and wifi when it's available? wifi preferrably but auto-fallback to 4g when it's not?

As a side note I don't think you'll even find a hub on any store's shelf anymore, it's all just switches now.

Any modem/router you buy will allow turning the internal wireless off if you wish. Stick to Asus for excellent performance and features for a fair price. Netgear stuff is decent too.

Tplink are typical chinese **** - cheap because they steal IP etc and are supported by the communist government over there.

Unless you have computers and laptops with wifi 6 chips it is pointless getting a wifi6 router at this stage - by the time all your other hardware is wifi ax, the speeds the routers will support will be much better and the price will be cheaper for them too.

tbh I've just gone wired at my place. with the kids, wife, laptops, phones, netflix all clogging the wireless, we were not getting anywhere near max speeds. With most of the fixed PCs, radios printers etc in the house now wired, the wifi speeds on everything else are so much better
