Lightbulb Price for AU Series 2 XR6 5 Speed?

G'day guys,

Was leaving the carpark yesterday after a staff meeting (I'm a teacher) and saw some young fellas using the basketball court. Thinking nothing of it, I was heading for the exit gate when I saw it!!!

White AU series 1 XR6

I headed for the guys who thought I was going to kick them out of the school grounds but I popped the question
"Who owns the AU?"
Stunned silence, followed by "me"
"It looks great, can I have a look at it?"

What followed was great, lots of chat about the car and a mutual admiration for the AU, one older bloke to a much younger one!! Great stuff!

Anyway, for the question
If I was after a stock series 2 XR6 with a 5 speed in good nick, how much would I be up for???????

Cheers,
George

Anything is worth what someone will pay for it.
What would you pay for such a car? At a guess I would say a lower standard car would be $18,000 and a high grade car as much as $24,000

Very true that people will pay lots more for a car they really want.

I guess I should never consider buying one from a member of this forum as they know and appreciate the AU very much. LOL

Cheers
George

AU2 XR6 5 spd - about $22000 at a guess. Obviously depending on kms, condition etc etc.

They still hold their value ok don't they?

What about an AU 1 XR6 then. The one I say last night was bought for $13,000 and had 215k on the clock.

215K is nuts!!!
My au1 has 120K and thats more than enough.

A good AU1 from a dealer is still well over $15K

So what you're saying is that young bloke got dudded??? Or simply that he's nuts buying a car with that many K's?

Or both??

The car was bought privately, so a bit cheaper than a dealer!

I'm saying 215K on an AU1 is EXCEEDINGLY high mileage.

If I see the guy again, I'll ask him if the car had a service history. I guess if you haven't got the cash, you've got to take a car with higher k's if you don't want to wait to save the extra few thou.

I have a brother in law who has a BA XR6 that he's selling soon. It's got 45,000 on the clock and he reckons he'll get $29,000 for it.

$24,000 for a good AU2 isn't far short of that! Also, if the AU2 is worth up to 24K, what would a good low km AU3 fetch? LOL

Ah the fun of owning a Series One! (damn, that rhymes!).

215kms on an AU, shite I'd walk away. I dare say the young guy has thought "stuff the kms, its an XR and i'll be cool". My 95 model Futura had that many kms when i sold it!

AU2/3 do hold their value well but for what they are and the price you pay they are a bloody good deal - its not uncommon for an AU2 Forte or Futura to go for abount $14,000. Considering this is less than half of what they were new, thats a damn good deal for a car whose only flaw is, in the eyes of some, its styling. Underneath its still a very capable and comfortable car.

There is an AU3 XR6 around here with 14,000 kms on the clock and it is going for $26,000. They wont get that much for it but they should crack the 20's at the very least.

trade in price for an XR6T with heaps of options and about that many k's is about $28k. I don't think he'd get $29k for a non turbo model with that many km on the clock.

How many clicks do they have on them though? Quite a few...

If I was going to buy an XR6T, I'd want it to have no more than 30,000km on it. I'd be prepared to pay more, but those examples you posted there useless did at least 45-50,000 clicks a year...

they have far too much mileage on them. You can get ones with 20,000km or so for about $30k from the auctions.

There's some AUIII XR6's going for the same prices as AUIII XR8's! Go figure! Still into the twenties for sure.

One day Ill upgrade to a BA but not anytime soon.

Parramatta rd (auto alley) in Sydney you'll find sticker price AU2 XR6's for about 26k give or take a couple of thousand.

Of course, you never pay sticker price.....

You prob won't have any major drama's taking out most BA's so why upgrade...

I'd be more than happy with your car

I'd be more than happy with your car
cos I have to go to NSW to get it engineered.

A BA Turbo would be awesome IMO, DOHC, heaps of scope for power. Not that I dont have heaps with the AU but A BA is newer, more gadgets, better suspension, more traction, better resale etc etc.

But unless I can do a straight swap for a 6 speed one with all the options ticked then its not going to happen. I love the AU!!
