Default Fitting factory Sat Nav to AU2/3.

Hey guys,
I'm looking at fitting factory Sat Nav to an AU2 Fairlane.

Now I'm just wondering if it's all plug and play.
If I have the unit, loom and the disc player in the boot, does it all plug into the factory loom without needing anything else..?

Has anybody attempted or achieved this modification..?

Also, can you still get the current maps for the system..?

Any help is appreciated..!

Cheers

Not sure about the wiring Kris, but I do have maps as of Sept 2009. PM me if you go ahead with this project.

I haven't attempted it, but I do know the dash is physically different, so is the wiring...

The only thing physically different in the dashboard is the centre area, which I can get. I have been told the wiring is there, I just need to confirm.

As above, I have been told it is there apparently.
Cheers Stu, if I get stuck I just might hit you up for some pics..

I'll do a little more homework and see how I go..

Thanks guys..!

unfortunately I got no information on the sat nav plug location but if nothing works you can easily get almost all the signals required at the radio harness, at least this is where I hooked up the FG mk1 sat nav (VDO Dayton PC5200) in my AU2 falcon.

you basically need perm. +12v, switched +12v, Ground, speed signal, sidelights signal (dashboard/radio illumination) and reverse signal. you should not bother with the reverse signal unless you reverse 50 meters on a regular basis. speed signal will only be there if your car is a high specs one (eg Fairmont), if it is a low specs one like mine (Forte) you need to get the speed signal from the odometer cluster. NB you should not use the GND line on the radio harness (but rather any chassis point or the metal radio cage itself) as it can cause problems with the backlight of the tiny LCD panel of the odometer counter.

Thanks for that

I have a full loom that came with the package, but i assumed fairlanes were pre wired

Its all fitted now, just no sat nav hooked up. I might sell it off and get one of those LCD gauges.

If you do, please let me know. I gutting my wagon to redo the interior so the wiring might be a bit easier to work out.

I just saw this on eBay and has got me thinking about installing this in lieu of the sat nav screen?
Trans temp would be better than the rpm gauge

The 2 factory plugs behind the radio don't fit into the sat nav
Def not pre wired

fairlane was definitely were pre wired so as fairmont but even the low series falcons have a dedicated sat nav fuse (monochrome pictogram only vdo dayton pc3200/pc4000 was an option while high series and ltd and fairlane used the full grown colour pc5000) but I got no idea where the plug should be and has always been lazy to trace it back from the fuse box
