Default Still chasing a 12

Well what can I say, I Know!…. I can’t drive, lol

Heres my best crack, with half a tank in street trim, but with sticky street/drag tyres.

ET 13.22
Speed 104 mph (best for the night was 107mph)
R/T -.038
60’ 2.034 (this is my best ever)
330’ 5.628
660’ 8.568
660’ speed 134.25km/h
1000’ 11.096

Ambient track temp, 24.0’c
Humidity 68%
Density Alt: 1766 feet
Wind 9 knot headwind
Track temp 36.2’c

No excuses for not hitting a 12.99, but no other 12.9 car did any better than a 13.2.
I reckon if I can take .1 off my 60’ then I will have it.
I did learn a lot, and had fun doing it. And I do believe I will make it with a bit more practice. I was not realy happy with any launch last night.
Those 4.11 diffs certainly keep you busy on take of. First run all wheelspin and rev limit cut of in first and second, lol

Maybe cooler weather will do it for me, what do you think guys?

John

Dude, good time first time out, But with a 107mph this would indicate a low 13 as this is what your car is running.

Just to pass on some info this has nothing to do with your car but with mine when I ran the 12.90 @110 all the car had was bolt ons at that stage I had no 4.1 or convertor yet. But it did take me a few goes to get it right.

No doubt it will come in your case better sooner then later , But it might be time for some DiFillipo's... :evil3:

Great effort..

agree with the quote on mph

after doing a few 13.00's with 109-110 and 2.2 60's
and 244rwkw

with 270-280 i would have expected 111mph atleast?

my thoughts exactly....the 104-107 range seems consistent with the times he getting....mate aside from the poor 60's/low et the mph is not there. As someone mentioned earlier the gear changes can effect this, but it seems its losing power somewhere?

I ran a 11.8 with Pacemakers, and i can assure you that it has a better time in it than that.

Like to hear from anyone that disagrees !!!

I just saw this - I disagree.

Your car can go an average 2mph faster with a change of header.

I was running 114-116mph at Heathcote last time i was up there, that was into that 20k headwind, i have no doubt it will pick up 1 or 2mph in ideal conditions.

Too many variables to compare, i think i am the only pacemaker car into the 11's NA ???
Every other car has been running De fillipo, we will try and smash my 11.89 next time out, no doubt it will if the conditions are good.

Absoloutely Cam, u are the only NA 11sec deal with Paceys - my comment was based on my own testing with Paceys. Have you tried Difilippo? I dont sell exhaust systems, so i only use what makes the car go quick.

As a matter of fact, I am going to play a bit with difillipo headers very soon. I think I have convinced myself they will improve things a little over the paceys. I have no doubt I will make the 12's soon. I just have to do everything right.

And gone are my days of thinking that drag racing was easy. You do have to know how to drive, even without corners

Di Filippo's or anything else won't matter superpursuit, you are making the power going by your signature and a recent dyno sheet that you posted. 107-109 MPH will see you into club 12 but you need to stop that tyre spin on the launch.

What tyre pressures were you running in those tyres?

The best my ute would get down the track with M/T street radials in FULL street trim was 13.14 (that was with a passenger), and it was very difficult to get it out of the hole.

When i fitted slicks and front runners in FULL street trim at heathcote i went down to 12.58 and at WSID it went 12.49 all with mid 1.7 60ft times.

Call me if you like for a chat about set up or driving technique if you like.

Cheers Craig

Thanks Craig, I did have a lot of probs with wheel spin. I am going to go and buy my own tyres now. (Because I am addicted) I will call you one day. and if your ever over here I will throw you the keys. (Did you drive Wade's ute?)

With the Difillipo thing, its just a bit of R&D really, for my own curiosity.

That's cool, no doubt you will find more power with the Di Filippo 1-7/8" headers but you have the power now to run that magic 12.

I drove Wade's car on the street for a week after we raced it. Chris drove the car on the racetrack, he's 23kg lighter than me and we were chasing the record for the first manual XR8 11 second deal. I'll be bringing mine back out shortly for a crack at "club 11" with "oil pump gears opened engine".

Would love a drive especially at Kwinana that place is killer.......

Cheers Craig

John
So you got the good old drag racing left hook John, all happens pretty quick in 1st doesnt it.
Mate wheelspin in a manual and where you change gears "will affect" your mph I have seen many a manual with one driver than another better driver same car next pass put 3mph+ on its trap speed. Thats the thing with manuals 1. you have to get the launch right 2. you have to (through trial and error) change gears at the right revs in every gear, this can affect mph and if you get alot of wheelspin in 1st can also affect mph, 2-3rd wheelspin wont affect mph as much as the car already has its momentum therfor getting fairly good acceleration.
What rev were you leaving the line at and what tyres were you using and what was your tyre pressures.
Also that RA 1766ft you would gain about 1.5 tenths with good air at say 500ft.
Mate with good rubber and with 4:1's and a good launch should get you around a say 1.85 or better 60ft which would knock about 3 tenths off your ET.

Had 8 runs, launched the best at 4500rpm with the MT ET Streets, 275/40R at 18psi.

I do have to work on where I change gear, I think I was holding the gear a bit too long and getting out of my torque range.
I sort of have the theory right, just have to practice more. A run of 13.55 saw 107mph.
Did I mention I had fun

When I had MT streets I could only launch at 3800-4000rpm max (with 240rwkw) and netted a best 60 of 1.82, anything over that would blow the tyres away.
Next time out start at about 3500rpm and each pass after give it 100rpm to see where your tyre threshold is, if you go the other way and get wheelspin you will be lost as to where the best revs are to launch. Tyre pressure seems ok, when I had MT streest 255/50/16 I found best tyre pressure was at about 16psi.

Oh and John fun is a understatment lol.

Chris (Bluepower) is here at the moment, just dropped off my baby (yay)

He mentioned that a 275 tyre will take at least 20rwkw more than a 255 to turn after half track. This could also affect mph.

after being in a few manuals with 4.10s/4.11 gears
i dunno if im a big fan (in manuals)

could it be possible that the time spent off full throttle and back on
and maybe that extra gear change in the space of the 1/4mile, could help cancel out the gain to be had
by having shorter gears....

with the superpursuits time not neccesarliy dropping
just made me wonder...

after being in a couple of manuals with very short gears
just seems(seems) slightly taller gears and letting the torque pull you through
is the better way to considering these cars unopened dont rev a whole lot...

have you tried changing as late as possible on your 1-2 and 2-3 shift
and maybe a little later on your 3-4 4-5

just askin and throughing a few thoughts out there

as it seems this car has the potential to be doing mid/high 12s on proper street tyres

That is very interesting.

When I use to run ETstreets I used 255/50/16's on a widened steel rim (proberly better if you can find a alloy to suite), but of you want to go all out you can use Slicks MT ET drag (26"x8.5"R/26"x4.5"F) with some Weld light weight rims or something similar.
On ET streets you shouldnt have to many dramas with your driveline but with slicks be prepared to break things especially in a manual.

Mate, I have been thinking and it all comes down to practice. When I say 4500 was my best launch, I am realy guessing. It could have been more or less. And its because of the inexperience, being able to get the revs just right, getting the clutch just right and all while being watched and in anticipation of the lights etc etc. There is a lot going on when you are actually doing it.
But you guys know that and have been around the traps long enough for it not to phase you. And some of us are born to do it.

Practice, learn, practice... I can feel it coming, bring it on :

I am still in fourth, with the shift alert (still at factory setting) going off about 30m before the line. No extra gear changes.

I still think its an experience thing

I just got of the phone to Simon (Xtreme Ford). He called me all worried, and you can hear the dissapointment in his voice.

Simon, its all good mate. You have given me a weapon and now I just have to learn to use it. We will get it there buddy, cheer up. ;)

Did I mention how much fun I had
