What do u mean, all parts are carry over between the models, theres just different parts for different levels, eg Fairmont has different bonnet to XR, but they both fit providing you have the front bar and headlights to match. The doors, roof / rear / guards are the same, its just the front.

Everything should fit bar the brakes, and some of the suspension parts, and obviously some dash switches and stuff, but trims, panels and everything else was the same.

The Engine Electronics were different as AU1 used gear from the EL, where the AUII used new stuff. The brakes were EL and smaller than AUII. The Bonnet and Grill (several times) were different, and front bar on the XR's.
Just the Electronics and brakes would be enough to stop ma considering a SerI. The major changes to SerIII were cosmetic, really refining what was a pretty good package. SerIII got clear side indicators, Side skirts, ABS, colour coded mirrors, all standard, as well as better firewall paneling to dampen engine noises into the cabin. All panels are interchangeable model to model. Even the brakes are, if changed as a unit. (You can't put SerII rotors with SerI callipers. What prompted your question??? Mike

The stuff that was all just mentioned is all available (bar brakes) on higher spec model. Ie, the fairmont has ABS, Cruise, "high" series bonnet, clear indicators, and what people always refer to as series 2 tail lights, but if people looked, it was available on series ones.

I have a 1/99 au Ghia. All the brake upgrades seem to be an expensive change to with stubs etc. Is it possible to put twin pot calipers on the series one, or do I have to do a complete upgrade. (about $1200) Regards from Mike. |

Some members have upgraded their brakes using the original lower control arms drilled to accept an EB sway bar (still need to change stub axles), info is in the "BA Brakes onto AU" sticky. Another option (rare) is to pick up Premium series 1 front rotors & calipers, someone had a set on ebay a couple of months ago. These will fit onto the s1 suspension.

It is a pretty full on job, I just use dba slotteds and bendix pads, and although it stops "ok" its not the best, and they are constantly warping.
