What is difference between a V6, I6 and a straight 6?

V6 has 3 cylinders on each bank in a V shape BLOCK when viewed from the front.

I6 and straight 6 are the same thing........ All cylinders are in line with one cylinder directly behind the other.

FYI, the Current FORDS have the I6, the Mitsubishi , GM and TOYOTA all use the V6 config.

One is an inherently balanced, torquey, iconic Aussie engine, the other is good for FWD's. (sorry I couldn't resist)

Just to make it more confusing the Ford Ranger has a 4.0L V6. Not to be mistaken AT ALL with the Falcons 4.0L I6

Don't forget the secret weapon, the very popular "five" cylinder falcon.

Don't forget the "flat" six. 3 cylinders in each bank horizontally opposed. I think the Subaru Liberty's use this type of engine and also some Porsche models.
