Default Finding my Grandads old ute

Im in the process of looking for my Grandads old ute. It is a xy falcon, either a 500 or standard ute, it had a 250 with 3 speed column shift, polar white with blue interior. Also had a sunvisor and spotlights. The rego number was PXH 775, which were Queensland black and white plates. He sold this ute to someone in Gatton, qld in the early 90s, and the last time i saw it was 2002.

Now, is there anyway i can use the rego number to track this thing down? My understanding is that Queensland transport has the info i need but they cant give it out. Any ideas? Oh and if anyone knows its whereabout then please tell!

Here in WA if you want to get some old plates re printed and you can prove some sort of sentimental reason ( backed up with old license papers or a photo) they will knock them up again, provided they're not in circulation.

So how about asking if they will reprint the plates and if they say "No" because they're still in circulation, it's a good bet it's still around.

If they say yes, then that means the old ones were handed in and delicensed, so unless the car got new rego it's probably been scrapped.

Just a thought and good luck looking for that needle in the haystack.

Until Jan 30th this year you could do a free V check you could have seen if the number plate was still circulation, now replaced with a Australia wide check PPSR and it costs $32.95 or $22.00 all this will give you a history check of the vehicle and you will know if that plate is still going around on the car.

This wont tell you were it is, only a police officer or someone who has access to the transport qld computer data base could.

In Vic, I was trying to contact the owner of a plate that I was interested in. Vicroads accepted a request from me and passed it onto the owner (without giving any information about the owner to me). Did it over the phone. WA?

I had an idea. I just typed PXH-775 into the personalised plates qld website and it says that combo is available, which means the ute is not registed with those plates anymore.

But......

Today i found out from talking to a friend of a friend of someone whos knows this guy etc. etc, the name and location of the person who bought this ute from my grandad, so thats where im going asap!

Well i went and saw the bloke who bought the ute. He sold the ute many years ago, which i suspected, but he was able to give me some info on it. He showed me a picture of it just after he bought it in which it looked quite tidy and in good condition, but because he was a truck driver it spent alot of time sitting in the truck yard while he was out on the road, and its condition deteriorated from this. Anyway the important bit of info was that the guy he sold it to was intending to restore it to original condition, and that he lived at Peachester, just inland from the sunshine coast. Unfortinately he could not remember the name or adress of the bloke from Peachester, just that he would be around 50 years old now.

Anyone on here live near Peachester?

If you know the vin no. you can pay Qld transport for a check if the car is still in there system. They will not give you this info. but will contact the owner & can pass on your details. The owner may or not want to contact you. Good luck.

Dont have the vin number unfortinately. I might go and see Qld Transport and ask if they can link the old rego number to the utes vin number.
