I've got a mate who's a full on holden fan/ford hating moron, he's going on saying his old ladies mazda 3 would eat my 4.0 falcon, anyone care to clarify which would win down a quarter mile? I know nothing about the mazda 3 and have no idea what their power to weight is like so i'm guessing he could be right..

A) I'm taking his smart *** down to calder first chance I get, and B) I wan't to smack him in the mouth for being so ignorant |

Hahahahahaha he hates ford cars (you might want to tell him who owns mazda)
Narrow minded fool. Going by Buckets figures Mazda 3 85kw / t 150Nm / t EF 106kw /t 225Nm / t The only that could make the falcon slower would be the lame diff gearing. Small cars tend to have a bit of poke due to their gearing, that being said down the quater the falcon will catch it no doubt. |

sorry guys, if its a manual Mazda 3, it'll give a Falcon a run for its money.
I know from experience

Yep I'll second that...sad but true - technology and power to weight are 2 things against our 4L torque monsters.
Maybe if you lined up both towing 6X4 trailers, it'd be a bit more interesting |

Manual 3's are nearly a second quicker than the auto's, an SP23 manual does the qtr in 15.9 according to Wheel's Mag. IMO you should win with a good launch, otherwise it'll be a looong chase.

according to wheels, an Auto EF does a mid 16.. leaving you noticably behind, especially off the line where the Falcon lacks its performance.
as said, if you're talking an Auto Mazda 3 or a manual EF, things change dramatically.

being the owner of a manual mazda 3, even if its only a 2l... i could say (not safely) but going on my experiences... it would prob beat it by no more than a length in your average street race to 120 odd... i can imagine the auto 3s are a fair bit slower, and having driven a few manual falcons, they would leave the 3 in their tracks... manual makes a falcon a totally different car...
love driving th 3 though... was never into little buzzboxes, still not really am, and its not one of these ones with a cannon out the back... up a hill though would be a different story... but around a track the 3 would munch a falcon, mainly as mentioned before due to technology and power to weight... would still kill for a manual ed xr6 if i could afford it... what i wouold do to that... hmmm |

If it's a manual SP23, I'd say you'd struggle. Auto would be line ball.
Any others out of the range and you'd be right. Not sure on EF times, Manual SP23 does a run in the high 15's, Auto in low to mid 16's (which is where I thought the EF ran - at a guess) |

You should win with ease.
Now my brother has this mate, who is a Ford fan that drives a stock Swift and made fun of my dad's worked V8 VL Calais, should I get it out and show him who's boss? : (Clearly not a serious question, as I wouldn't even bother wasting 300 odd HP and about 450Nm on a stock Suzuki Swift) Sorry just couldn't help myself. :lookedat: |

a couple of me mates raced a stock manual VP commodore against a manual mazda , and all I can say is that if the driver of the mazda didn't miss a gear he would have been all over him.

Lets see now... EF GLi (I'm assuming auto here) vs Mazda 3 2.0 (I'm assuming manual).
Ok the Mazda 3 has... 104kW @ 6500rpm and 181Nm @ 4500rpm weighing in at 1200kg. The EF GLi has, as we should all know... 157kW @ 4900rpm and 357Nm @ 3000rpm weighing in at 1560kg. That's 86.7kW/tonne and 150.8Nm/tonne for the Mazda 3 with 100.6kW/tonne and 228.8Nm/tonne for the Falcon. Clear victory so far... Mazda 3's manual is geared as follows... 3.666:1 - 1st 2.059:1 - 2nd 1.392:1 - 3rd 0.970:1 - 4th 0.795:1 - 5th The final drive ratio is 4.388:1. Falcon's automatic is geared as follows... 2.39:1 - 1st 1.45:1 - 2nd 1.00:1 - 3rd 0.68:1 - 4th The final drive ratio is 3.08:1. Falcon is RWD wearing 205/65 R15 tyres on 15x6" steel wheels stock and the 3 is FWD wearing 195/65 R15 tyres on 15x6" steel wheels stock. What I see happening is this - Mazda 3 easily gets the jump in first gear, no contest. Less power, more grip due to tyre size and lack of power in comparison, super short gears. Will hold that advantage through most of its second gear, at which point the Falcon will catch up, pass, and stay ahead. Who would win the 1/4 mile? Falcon. Easily.

Mazda 3 Neo manual weighs a minimum of 2214kg if we want to be more technical....
I'd put money on the Mazda. |

all this is based on theory
IN PRACTICE: wrong. the Mazda 3 was easily quicker then my car, even at higher speeds it had enough to be moving away from me. my cars modded how ever the engine isnt healthy, but it has run 400metre times similar to a stock EF (16.1)

thats because 5 speed EA's actually have a bit of pace, even with the CFI engine.
a manual Mazda 3 will cut a 15 down the 1/4... if wheels got a 15.9 from an SP23 then i can imagine a 15.7 from one on a real track. despite what your theory says Steffo, i *was* beaten by a mazda 3

And just because you got beaten by a Mazda 3 once, that means that every time a Mazda 3 races an EF, it will win? Riiight... :alien2:
