So the iPhone 5 was announced this morning and if I'm perfectly honest I think Apple has dropped the ball. The Galaxy SIII & One XL to me still appear to be better phones (though their resolution isn't quite as high as the iPhones yet).
No doubt there will be truckloads of people lining up to buy one, but once you put the back up on it from your old 4/4S then it'll look & feel exactly the same as your old phone and I think the excitement of a new phone would be short lived. Here are the known specs - http://www.gsmarena.com/apple_iphone_5-4910.php And here's an article from SMH - http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/m...913-25t85.html Definately no excitement from me here but then Apple lost me as a customer in 2010 with the iPhone 4 I had and got bored with!

Looks like the Nokia Lumia 920 is going to take some of Apple's business...
I hate the fact i5 is bigger overall!!! i thought the screen size was perfect...

It is so unimportant that everyone feels they need to make posts on a Ford forum about it?
If it was not for Apple and the iPhone we would all still be stuffing about with symbion and all the "nokia wannabes". |

just because apple 'did it first' (which is debatable in itself) doesn't mean someone else wouldn't have done it 12 months later.

If you don't like it don't buy it. Go buy the Sumsung Brick SIII or the HTC Boring.

Be happy with something that is already behind in technology before its even released, and also enjoy paying more money again for accessories that you have that aren't compatible anymore. Like how Apple dictates **** to you?

As an early WP7 adopter (Mozart and Nokia Lumia) and an iPhone 4S user I cannot see why you would upgrade to the iPhone 5 from a 4 or 4S, and can see how WP which is already superior in my view will simply stretch the gap with WP8. Not to mention Android based phones also advancing. Just my 2 cents worth............

And still apple have so much wasted space on the front of it that they could have used for a bigger screen

post-Steve, Apple are looking decidedly uninspired. the ipod nano looks like a Nokia Lumia, the ipod touch looks dated and a bit cheap, and the iphone 5 lacks much of the new tech being offered by other phone manufacturers.

They are falling behind, its merely a catch up to the The Galaxy SIII & One XL which have been out for awhile now.

I know I'll just be labelled a sheep but I actually quite like it.
I love the simplicity and ease of use of my iPhone 4. I like the way the icons look, the OS, the way you navigate. Personally I was concerned they'd try and be too revolutionary and balls it up. So the fact that it has only received minor (some important behind the scenes) tweeks makes me quite happy.

Might stick to my 4s.

How can we judge it? Because it's almost the same as the current model but a bit taller with an extra row of apps on the screen. Sure an improved processor but no specs released on that yet. I'm open minded - I want it to be great (it will sell great regardless) but in terms of what appears to be the extent of the improvements - it leaves you wanting.
I do, however, love seeing all the interest in WP8 - I've moved from Apple to WP7 back when the Mozart was released and now run a Lumia 800 and the 820/920 look brilliant. Here's my perspective on phones in a language more suited to the forums - iPhone = Camry/Corolla Android = Commodore Windows = Falcon Person opinion of course!

Each to their own, just many friends have broken the glass on their iphones, most likely due to how they landed.
My SII has survived several throws off a balcony, and also being thrown from the roof of a shopping center at a bobcat. Probably lucky it didn't break, but solid enough for me to stick with it.

I dont know what crack your all smoking.. but Ive got my Iphone 4s jailbroken and its awesome.. can you jail break these other phones you speak of?
personally I wouldnt buy anything windows based.. that would be like buying a Hyundai and putting a body kit on it.. its never going to work properly. Iphones went from being socially the coolest thing on the planet to now somewhat of a social defect... just as well I could care less about being trendy.. I still love flannel shirts ,black jeans and footy socks though. |

HG, what are the Dis/advantages of jailbreaking. Thought of it then decided to play it safe.
I am a bit let down by the 5. I expected them to really take the fight to the galaxy. Sure apple revolutionised the music & phone industry, but their products dont seem to be cutting the mustard anymore. When I say that, im not saying their product is crap, I just think they have lost that "edge" & innovation that apple was renowned for not long ago. The Galaxy Really has taken the fight to the apple, and in terms of the screen size & surface area of the phone, there is a WHOLE lota screen on the Galaxy II. I was really hoping that Apple would take a leaf out of their book. Because in comparison to the SII, the Iphone has alot of wasted real estate. I suppose what I am saying is that the Home button & Earpiece sections could have been encroached on like the SII without increasing the physical size of the phone, or at least minimizing how much bigger the phone would need to be lengthened. I also thought the screen could have gone (along with the rest of the phone) wider. That I also wanted. I came to all of this when I put my 4 on top of my dads SII just for a quick comparo. As for any real improvements, there isnt much over a 4S which is a little disappointing. most software & features apart from video IIRC correctly have been carried over. Just as the 3GS carried over into the 4. Maybe Im being harsh & my opinion might change when I hold one. Till then......

I picked up a new samsung galaxy and played with it for a while and I found that well, kind of like I really needed to "read the manual" to make the thing user friendly. Didnt come naturally to me. Different strokes ..... so they say.

only dis advantage I've found is not being able to update until the next jail break program is available.. SO in Itunes you need to turn off automatic updates when you plug your phone in.
but once you've done it. you have so much more at your fingertips.. Im not actually sure why APPLE limit the phone so much.. anything that has been restricted is obviously been freed up.. as for individualising your phone.. once jail broken the possibilities are endless............. and no virus risk.. because its not windows based.. Apple across the board is alot more user friendly and safer to use.. being phones or computers.. I will never go back to a windows based product.. they way I see it.. if you want to play computer games.. go windows.. if you want a computer that does everything else.. get an Apple. ;) *now where did I put that flame retardant suit?* |
