Hi guys
Just after some suggestions. I'd like to upgrade the AU's stopping power. I've got Series1 brakes. What are my choices? Also interested in what people's preference's are when it comes to brake pads? Cheers Krissy

Hightek Brakes - Factory 11, 59-65 Keys Road, Moorabbin, 95531160. If you check a thread I started "Slotted Rotors" there is a link to Hightek Brakes who were having specials $100 per disc up until Easter. Casper thought pads would be round $80, so $280 all up if you were handy enough to install them! I would like this setup myself, should ring Hightek later today and see if they have any left! Could get them on in time for the BBQ! Hope that helps Krissy! BTW it took me a while to pick up that you had changed your name!! Your car is looking good, hope you are happy with it! GK

yep, DBA slotted rotors and Bendix Advance pads is the same setup that I fitted to my car about a month ago and I was very pleased with the results.

hey krissy
nah, they aren't that bad. The bendix ultimates that I had on there with the stock rotors were heaps worese than the advance with dba slotteds.

It's a truck parts warehouse in Silverwater as well ... but they seem to be the cheapest I have come across them.

S1s are rather limited in their stopping power. only "upgrades", more like replacement options, are a set of slottered, cross drilled or dimpled rotors with some good pads.
DBA has the slottered and cross drilled gold series on option, whereas RDA has also the slottered and the slottered & dimpled rotors. All o fthose rotors are around the $100 mark ea depending on how u well know the people at the shops. As for pads, there are more options than fingers on both hands. Personally i have used Bendix ultimates and RDAs own "sports" pads and both are just working fine for me on street use. So just go for personal preference. Having said that, if you are more serious about an actual brake upgrade as such, might wanna consider a S2 front suspension change, which involves changing uprights, lower control arm, swaybar, swaybar links and various little things. With the S2 setup you now can easily bolt on the Tickford/PBR twin piston premium caliper or AP Racing or Brembo 4 piston calipers with the enlarged 330mm rotor. Just a heads up

As has been said, DBA slotteds, and Bendix pads. I find the pads a little dusty, but my car gets cleaned every weekend, so it doesnt matter. They pull up well, nice and smooth, and are a lot better than the originals. I dont think you really need to spend the extra on cross drilled, unless you do a lot of track work. Just my opinion, hope it helps.

I've got the Premium brake package on the XR6. Same ones that Evil Chief mentions. You should contact FTG. They have just had a Pursuit come in and it will have those calipers. They should give you what you need to stop all your G&D mods :
If they are too expensive, i'd look at some PBR's. The tickford Calipers are PBR's anyway. If you get the tickford ones, make sure you order a refurbishment kit from John & Cebco. The pins wear out an you get movement in the caliper. There is to be a thread around which talked about these pins

monty: cross drilled + track racing = bad, seen too many crack under the extreme heat, and also i have seen some pretty bad brake dust build up in the drill hohles after racing. would recommend the 4x4 wiper slot rotor instead

My bad. I just thought that was the case. I also thought it would be a waste of money (if your not after the nice looks of them) buying cross drilled rotors for the street. I use plain slotted, and they work wonderfully.

I'll just clear up that I do have DBA slotted rotors but I dont (and would never use) Bendix pads. I find them to be inferior. I have currently been running Ferodo Formula pads.

I just had my brakes done not so long ago and had them fitted with some
Lucas pads.... yes these will get a bit a dusty but all pads do owing to non-asbestos regs but so far I have not had these babies squeal once, they're fantastic. Personally I would not hesitate to recommend Lucas, they aren't one of the market leaders for nothing. Cheers Chris |

As well as the Easter special at Hightek, DBA slotteds can be had roughly from Brakes Plus for $100. I will need to confirm this though as the store mananger was on holiday until Tuesday, the call was tranferred! At least he's keen for business I guess LOL! GK

I dont rate Bendix at all...
They Bendix Ultimates that where on my car when I bought it where only marginally better than the $30 "Powermax" pads of got on my car at the moment. There are a few guys who have used Formula Ferodos (TS2000 compound), and all agree they are brilliant. There a also a couple who have rated the QFM (A1M compound) very highly as well.

Got slotted DBAs and Bendix Ultimates on all four wheels on my series 1 XR8, and it pulls up as well as the Series 2 wagon with the twin spot calipers and DBA slotteds at the front. Funny how an upgrade on a series one matches stock on a series 2. The slotted rotors + Advance/Ferodo pads are a huge improvement over stock on the series 1s.

Get one of those hooks they put on aircraft to land on carriers. You'll stop real quick with one of those

Ive got slotted rotors, and bendix performer pads.. and ew, the brake dust is the worst thing ever, just finish cleaning the chromies and even if you dont drive the car they get covered in brake dust, thats how bad they are lol. the rotors and pads helped stopping by 20% atleast, BUT when the pads start to wear out, they arent anything special.. Im not happy with them.
Id stay away from bendix pads, but definately get slotted rotors. Or speak to FTG and get a premium brake upgrade package from one of the wrecks. |

I have never used Ferodo Formula pads, but will look for them next time I need to change brake pads. That way I can see for myself if they are as good as everyone says they are.
