Since now the club has grown out to a decent size of members, there has recently been a larger call from members asking for track days or a hill climb days. I have done a little bit of research into this, there is 2 ways. 1) Become a member of a car club that hosts these events, and hopefully your car is eligable (depending on their constitution) then you will need a level 2 speed licence (yearly). And i think (not sure yet) a cams licence on top of that. OR 2) The club becomes a cams affiliated car club (yearly fees) (still waiting on reply from cams on prices) Then our club can hire out official Cams hill climb tracks, or circuit tracks (very cheaply). Individuals still have to get their level 2 speed licence, and (maybe) a Cams licence. And our club has the entire track or circuit for the day and we do what we want (there will be alot of saftey rules).
Just some thoughts from members would be great, as there is a lot of younger guys in the club with now some high horsepower vehicles, and it would be great for the club to organize track days where members can get their cars out and blow the cobwebs out of them in a controled enviroment and all can have alot of fun. And it can be another way the club can branch off into. I made enquires also regarding historic vehicles attending track days, there is a small change in the clubs constitution, but after that, all historic vehicles will be able to attend track days. Comments would be great.

If kempsey drag strip goes ahead i would be looking into it more but there isn 't much around mainly hillclimbs.
It is proberly easyer to join a local club that supports what you want to do eg drag ,hillclimb whatever.

Mt Cooperbung is a Cams hill climb track, going by what the kempsey Sporting car club told me last night, if we were a Cams affiliated car club, mt cooperbung track would be available to the club for $160 for the day. Not far to travel, for a small price per member attending will get you a lot of runs up the mountain. And when they do hold their competition days, we can take part. Eastern Creek is a Cams circuit, wouldn't you enjoy doing laps in the XY at Eastern Creek ?

I know that this has become bigger but this is way too big. If ya wanna race or track day it people should go through the channels like ian luff and have the insurances because they are pricey. You would need 200 members with all the other events that we do. We don't need to over play the weekends we have now.

you will need at least the level 2 license (that is the CAMS license) It can open the doors & allow the 'club' to be able to hold their own events, but it does open a can of worms for officials needing to be licensed to direct such events (I know, I am a clerk of Course). It would move the forum into another league so to speak..
there is alternatives now with AASA I think it is, but something that should not be simply dismissed thats for sure |

I like the idea Gordo and I would participate for sure as I love driving the ute and giving it a work out.
However you may be grabbing a tiger by the tail because me thinks your organisational/administration overheads (not $) would be bigtime for any event to be held. You may need to set up another committee just to handle that side of the clubs agenda. I've had no experience in this area, so bear in mind these are just my thoughts for what they are worth. BTW Thanks for sending the photoes of the yella ute loaded up at Valla. We did have a good time. |

Talk to AASA (Australian Auto Sport Alliance), probably best through Winton Motor Raceway as they do most of the admin work for AASA. They can be a bit slow to get back to you as they have a whole lot of admin infrastructure, but they are good at this club level stuff.
