Don't just get angry, do something about it.
It is a pre-election stunt to see the reaction. Contact each of your local candidates and ask them for their views. Make them aware that it is important to your vote. Ring the local talk back radios with arguments like "So a mine worker comes back from a 3 week shift and his bike ran out of rego yesterday and as we now have no stickers he wakes up in the morning after a long sleep recovering from his stressful job to go to the shops and buy a bottle of milk for his coffee and BAM, he has his $25,000 KTM or BMW confiscated, no ifs, no buts, no maybes" etc. Watch them run and hide if enough of you arc up...... |

Glad I don't live in WA.
If I lost a car for every tyre mark I've left on the road I'd be in trouble. For revenue raising the police would probably just sit at boat ramps all day. |

haha, surely doing a MASSIVE burnout trying to get your boat out of a slippery boatramp is a good enough excuse to not get troubled by the cops?

Nothing but a group of self interested tax wasters looking to get voted in is all thats going on here.Easy target group to appeal to is the ACA group as I call em,whatever ACA says is the bible in there minds.
I had a lady in a Tarago over take me with a full load of kids doing well over 60 in a 50 zone pull into my lane only to have to swerve and brake suddenly due the ute in front of us turning into the local servo.Thats not hoon activity but it dam well nearly got some people injured but people only watched me pull into the servo due to the ute been loud. Bet cha her car or licence would not be impounded or cancelled if she crashed let alone if people witnessed her driving ability. |

Although I believe serious repeat hooning deserves heavy penalties including impounding the vehicle this is a major over reaction. also as I have said before what happens when the car belongs to another person or is under finance ( car belongs to the financier) I'm kind enough to help a friend out by lending a car he momentarily breaks traction leaving a mark on the road and I loose my car? fair ? no way, the winners from this will be the lawyers who will challenge this draconian legislation

How did the liberals making new legislation turn into a cop bashing thread on the third post. Classy stuff AFF'ers. AU3XR6, that photo is so offensive, if you knew the first thing about what police put up with you would be ashamed with yourself. Grow up mate.

this thread is dealing with legislation that issues punishment far more severe than far more major crimes receive that's what the satirical pic is all about. motorists are being disproportionately targeted by draconian hoon laws and I'm sure many officers are embarrassed at what they have to enforce. more resources are being allocated to traffic offences and less to more serious offences despite the road toll be at it lowest for decades

Its the picture I was directing at. Not your post, which I somewhat agree with, which is why we have officer discretion. The photos however, is disgusting.

and so is the targeting of motorists with ever increasing harsh penalties despite a historically low road toll while we have a low clear up rate for serious crime. if the money that was spent on targeting motorists was spent on serious crime the crime rate would drop and clear up rate would rise

Again, the way the money is spent is government, not police.
You do realise that there are different departments in the police? Not just one unit that goes and does every job? There are traffic police, they look after traffic. They dont investigate anything else. There are dozens and dozens of sections within the police force in each state. You do understand, that to charge someone with murder, or rape, its not just a case of "I was raped, go arrest this guy I have no description of? You do understand that when cars are stolen, police dont go and knock on every single house in the city to check the garage? So when you get your head out f your rear, and stop thinking that the police force is one unit and should be doing everything you think they should be doing, the quicker we can get this thread back on track. And that photo, as I said, is seriously offensive.

and as I said before you have a serious lack of understanding of the meaning. it is not critical of the actual officers who do a hard job under difficult circumstances , it is critical of the disproportionate metering out of punishment and enforcement to motorists, it is about the disproportionate allocation of the law enforcement budget to targeting motorists for often minor offences.
the picture is showing the frontline of this inequality (the officer) who is often abused by motorists for doing nothing more than their job. but a pic of a speeding ticket would not portray the intended message. I believe that we do need highway patrol out there like we need general duties police. I also believe the police force ( not the officer) need to take a serious look at their allocation of resources. If an police officers out there misinterpreted the picture as a criticism of them I apologise but I don't apologise for the actual statement that it makes criticising the allocation of of police resources Quote:

I don't see this as cop bashing, the cops are merely the ones who enforce the laws set by a bunch of idiots...what it does however, is it draws Police attention away from other crimes and places it on the roads.
There are far more serious crimes that I would consider need more attention like alcohol violence, drugs, rape...the rampant rise of gun use in Sydney etc etc etc I hardly see any cops walking around anymore, patrolling the streets particularly at night...ever walked around Sydney CBD on a Friday or Saturday night???

Good point, EDManual, I just hope that one person isnt you, or me, or any of us, or our partners, or children or family or anyone innocently walking down the street.
I say, Get the self-centred jerks off the road ASAP, before any other person is killed or maimed.

the problem part of hooning isn't the wheel spin in an empty industrial area it is how they drive after the wheel spin hooning probably kills many - as many as the government would like for us to believe; maybe not, but many more than the average self confessed car enthusiast thinks it would be good if both the government and most car enthusiasts lived in reality and not just cared solely about what serves them better |

What you're saying is its the Government and pollies who make the decisions. Police do what they are told to do with budgets for different job areas.
Its the Gov who is annoying us not the cops. |

you obviously haven't bothered to read my posts just took time to misinterpret a picture with a genuine meaning that in no way actually criticises the frontline officers and then jump the gun

please be good enough to show me where I eluded to your picture.....in fact I barely glanced at it.......however, now that I have looked at it I think it is very silly to think there are more police with radar guns than there are detectives and uniformed officers pursuing rapists and the such......the two systems are entirely separate entities and work on different levels, before commenting on the way the system works you should at least have a little knowledge about it and not just cut and paste some one else's drivel my footing on this whole issue is that regardless of what a few people on here think and are willing to argue about is that hooning is an illegal activity.... whether we like it or not

I agree that hooning needs to be dealt with like any other offence but they have broadened the definition so much that nearly any driving offence can be interpreted as hooning .
confiscate a car for a momentary loss of traction ( unintentional) hardly fair. confiscate a car for street racing or repeated sustained long burnout? yes . confiscate a car that belongs to another person after a hoon offence? that's a grey area but could be dealt with by recording the offence against the car and if the car has a history of being driven by non owning hoons yes confiscate it maybe a 3 strikes method. this give the owner a chance to keep his car and reconsider who he lets drive it while allowing 2 hoons who swap cars to escape confiscation to still be caught. I am not critical of the enforcement of road rules but I am critical of the disproportionate allocation of resources to this area when other areas are in greater need of resources Quote:

the other day I chirped one tyre of my diesel triton! I almost killed babies, and some grandmas etc. I really should have had my car confiscated. That would have made the world a safer place!
