All the sheep public see is 4.0L six-cylinder and go well if my 1.8L kia does 9l/100klms then a 4.0L will do over 20L/100klms without actually investigating the issue. Without even looking at the ADR/81 sticker.

You really want them to sell?? Put a Toyota badge on them!!

Toyota in this country almost sell more than Holden and Ford put together!

What he said.
Instill confidence back into the consumer, one way would be to confirm the Falcon's life in AU.

People need to realise a few things,

1) There are more Holden loyal customers out there than Ford, its a Fact.
2) Holden are selling more cars to fleets at low cost which is pumping their numbers up... but do they make money selling them..?
3) Ford have gone about positioning their product to appeal more to private buyers with higher spec models.. this is reflected in sales brand mix.
4) The Ford line is currently at capacity, Burella has indicated a plan is now in place to be able to increase production by 15% by year end, this is no easy task.
5) So effectively Ford are selling as many FG's as they can physically make.

The reality is Ford is a smaller company than Holden, it doesn't need to sell as many cars to cover operational and fixed costs to begin with.
Burella has made it clear that sustainable profitability of the business is more important that just buying volume and market share for the sake of it... but that's no excuse for not trying to sell more, which i'm sure they are.

But to answer the original question; How do Ford sell more FG's? at this stage just Make more...

No but I bet Hyundai and Mazda talk about knocking off Ford,
both are within about 800 sales of Ford at the end of March....

All Ford needs to do is hang tough, keep advertising and grow Falcon sales,
they are doing it with the right product mix now and doing away with station
wagon frees up space for a few more Territorys, G Series and XRs, and that
has to be good for business...

Maybe FoA should send a few Falcons to Mazda. It would make a brilliant replacement for the 929, and people would buy it for the Mazda badge.

Wow, that's thinking outside the box.
It might be worth a shot, perhaps all that would need is the G6E

it is amaaaazing how many people with little or no experience with either ford or holden..when asked what they like will instantly say...nah screw the ford/holden..depending on friends/family opinions they may have heard.they will instantly become a ford or holden fan for life most likely from the smallest of comments. Ford needs only to make more to sell more id say at the moment

Reinstate consumer confidence by having Alan Mulally detail Ford AU’s business plan post 2015. It could read something like this:

Increase production and actually have cars available for sale.. Decrease XT price for fleets.

Hahaha, no way! Holden buyers would never buy a rebadged car just because it has a Holden badge on it. Thats like saying the Barina is a Daewoo..

As was said by 4V ... capacity is there with the current shifts so things ticking over. If they had a little bit more stock, maybe they would sell more.

FPV I am sure would love to sell alot more. If they did, profits would be better and they can then start experimenting with different things. There is one way to fix this ........

I'm getting excited if Ford has a full order book to need additional shifts.

I'm a little confused though as if the plant can do 400 units a day and there are say 20 production days in a month that would be 8,000 units.

I know that the same production line does Territory and ute so there is a share of the 8,000 units - but even with a generous split how does this equal the current market share?

Maybe I'm not considering all the sales of Territory and ute properly?

Build rate is 270 a day. To put that number up requires a re-balance of the line and extra workers. It is very time consuming to do because extra jobs have to be added and all the work required needs to be moved around, and timings need to be spot on. Every movement is timed and added together to fit into a certain time frame per car, which is around 90 seconds at the moment. And to add to that some things can only be fitted in a particular sequence. It is massively complicated. Get it wrong by a couple of seconds and it can over stress that area resulting in a slower line rate and quality issues, or further re-balancing. I've been through 3 re-balances and they are a nightmare to get right.

So instead of speeding up the line it is easier to add a Saturday or two.
Boss, would they ever consider 9 or 10 hour days or would the body shop start to run behind?

People simply dont understand how extremely complex it is to manage the line and implement any kind of line rate increase.... It takes an enourmous amount of planning, co-ordination and many many months....
