Default Bill Shorten for PM?

What's this world coming to?

I read "bills book of bedtime stories".

They all start with; "once upon a time and a half"

Are you sure you want to travel this road.....for a start he has to do time before he gets near the top job...yes some in the party have suggested he is the annointed one.

The reality is this...first he has to get elected...then he has to do time on the backbenches...now if by some strange quirk of fate he can get around the backbench routine.

He still has to get a big tick from caucus and lets not forget Kim wants to be PM.

Remember it took Hawkey 10yrs before he got anywhere near the top job.

And just for info all should be double time and a half and triple time public hols.

Ooh a political thread. This might get interesting.

I don't know much about Old Bill. Except he's replacing Bob Sercombe in the Marybyrniong seat next election.

It was blantantly obvious his constant appearance on the news milking the whole trapped mine issue had ulterior motives. I don't know the bloke but what does he have to offer. I couldn't give a stuff who was delivering news during mine issue. I was just listening to what was said.

To the team I know I've asked for favours before when it comes to threads of this nature...but this could be interesting.

So if you've a mind to please let it run.

Why let a thread run that is in complete disregard of the site terms & conditions?

Just so you can spruike your misinformed nonsense!

Who would have even heard if BS if it wasn't for his opportunistic PR position at a recent mine disaster? Still from the look of thing he has a lot more going for him than some of the Labors recent offerings? He's probably never even been in a blue with a taxi driver or the whole of humanity.

Nice first post Campo:

We are missing the point guys, if Mr Costello takes over from Mr Howard I reckon Labor will win the next election with me leading them

Be assured. The odds will shorten for Bill. (couldn't help myself there) But it will be a longish road as Professor McMaster (meant as a compliment John) has explained. Factions and all that. Centre left, Left. Far Left, whoops someone fell off... or was he pushed? But after Howard hands over to Costello, and then Malcolm Turnbull muscles his way to near the top of the pile, I think Bill Shorten will have a grey beard before he gets a run for PM!

Worst. Idea. Ever. He had his aesthetically-questionable mug on TV for 5 seconds and the media start beating him up as the new Labor leader. Is he even a member of the party?

Combet (Combat!) for PM!!

What do people think about Kevin Rudd? I know he looks like he's stepped out of a childrens playground, but he's extremely intelligant, is actuially able to take it to the Howard administration, unlike the other half-witted Labor frontbenchers, and personally I think he would be a great leader of the Labor party

IMHO the whole issue with politics in Australia is not that the current party in power (at either state or federal level ) is necessarily good, its rather there is no credible opposition.

Bill Shorten, from my understanding, is an idealistic right wing left lawyer.

Surely this is a joke.
On another note id also like to know why he was the spokesman at the mine?
Was he "self appointed" or was he given permission to comment by the owners?
Personally i would have thought the owners of the mine would be the ones providing public comment on their mine and staff, if it was my business it certainly would have been me not him.

Lol - i thought LTD's joke was a ripper tho!

I think the ALP would probably do well to align themselves a bit further to the left and get the unions well and truly back on board. Get back to what they used to stand for - seems lately they've been trying to pass themselves off as an ALTERNATIVE to the liberal party as opposed to an OPPOSITION to the liberal party. Maybe BS/GC could be the way to do this? Heck, always got peter garret kicking around in the ranks as well. *cough*

*meh* you all know where i stand in the political spectrum... personally I'd be happy to see kimbo lead the ALP to the next election.

I think you'll find the Labour party has put a bit of distance between themselves and the unions because they have finally realised that allot of voting Australian's hate having the country run by the ACTU and they know that if the ACTU has too much power it ruins productivity and competitiveness in this Country.

What?? To assure the conservatives another 4 years uninterupted opportunity to wind back social reforms to the mid-Victorian era?

To put it simply - yes (we currently redistribute more wealth to the poorest 20% of the population than almost any other country in the world but dont let the facts get in the way of a good yarn, right?)

I'm sure some obscure statistics could be engineered to support a conservative view but the issue is too broad to be propped up simply by that. Many many other factors. But just look at the recent exhibition of socially restrictive, morally questionable and paternalistic right wing and discriminatory dogma/policy/legislation Canberra has foisted or has tried to foist onto Australians in recent months. Its a good yarn alright but becoming a sad one....

If every other country distributes $1, and we distribute $1.10, that comment is still valid. Dont let real information get in the way of a good diversion, right?

Well, you wouldn't need to be the sharpest tool in the shed to see Bill's got more 'presence', got more attachment to the Ausy bloke than what old fat guts will ever have.

Fat guts whinges and moans, biches and gripes and NEVER has anything pro active to say or do. He really is holding Labour Party back !

Not that I care, I vote for Johnny or Costello if he's finally able to send Johnny packing, and I reckon the likely hood of Labour Gov next election is mighty slim. And fat guts aint going to fit into a slim chance !!!!

Go Bill, or Crean, or whom ever, cause with Fat guts at the helm, man, you labour backers have no chance. I think ?

Great reads guys, I did not mean to start a political thread, I meant it as a joke.

Because he's union and they are always after better wages/conditions, that's why I had the "once upon a time and a half thing."

4.9 and 4V man and some others got it.

My bad.
Great reads and theoretical arguements though, Ford guys truely are the politically astute in comparison to the other mob.

I suspect there's the occasional graduate/student political devotee and persons well read around these traps able to string together a coherent view or two. Pity there isn't the opportunity to sample the full flavour on these forums. Other issues freely discussed seem to generate outpourings of blind ignorance, hate, bigotry and general vituperation. ITS ALL FUN! LET IT HANG OUT!

Oops.... I'm pushing it....... Could we start a topic/section: 'The Soap Box– Enter at your own risk!'?

Guys despite all the rhetoric....let history tell the story.

I doubt very much that Bill Shorten will even get elected let alone be PM....there is a very long queue of those who would be Labour leader let alone PM.

The reason I say this is because I feel that mainstream Oz is getting tired of the two main parties and is looking for an alternative.

And this is from a staunch unionist!!!!!

The Democrats are dead in the water...so who does this leave...the independants...hhmmmm..the greens...no thanks.....maybe given the current trend in politics and society the family first party just might have a following.

So what are your thoughts?
