Cabin filter 2007-2014 Mondeo

There's a thread on the cabin filter under Mondeo but it's actually for the Focus
so I'll start a new one for the Mondeo 2007-2014 here.

I do my own oil changes and the cabin/odour/pollen filter is slated
for renewal at the same 15000km interval. Changing the cabin filter
is a pain because it's been deliberately made difficult to get at.
That's why I skip it every second time.

Here's the list I made for my own benefit. I found the tools listed
make it less of a headache.

CABIN FILTER RENEWAL - MONDEO 2007-2014

PART ONE - TOOLS

Tools to make it easier:

Small cordless screwdriver, pistol or bent style.
T20 torx bit.
7 mm Hex socket.
10mm Hex socket.
Right angle drive adapter for cordless driver.
Centering spike or scriber
for lining up any mis-aligned screw holes.
#2 philips bit.
worklight.

PART TWO - REMOVE AND INSTAL

Remove glovebox: 4 torx screws and 2 10mm hex head.
Remove 4 electrical connectors from glovebox (USB
socket complete with bracket).

Remove trim panel below glovebox.
Release the catch and lower the electronics module(GEM).
Lift the module out of the rear pivots
and manoeuvre it out of the way.

Remove the 3 cabin filter cover screws
using right angle drive adapter.
Pull the old filter out.

The new filter goes in with the airflow arrow
pointing into the cabin.
Bending the filter is necessary to get it in.

Thanks for this Rondeo. It was only a couple of weeks ago I was wondering how to do this and looked in the owners manual to see if it said anything nope!

When I had an Aurion it was a 5 minute job max. It also said how to do it in the owners manual. You could take the glovebox out without any tools and it was 2 phillips head screws to remove the cover where the filter was.

My Honda is even quicker. Squeeze the glovebox lid inwards slightly after you open it; squeeze a clip and pull out the old filter - do the reverse with a new filter to complete the job. Literally 2 minutes and the new filter is $50.00. My bloody Mondeo will cost a whole lot more to have done at the dealer!!

Yeah Honda and Toyota must have gone to the same school of common sense. Glovebox removal was the same in the Aurion, just squeeze it and drop it down. I couldn't remember if there were screws or not so I went conservative. It may have been a spring clip as well.

Any ideas on what Ford charge for changing this filter?
My 60K service is due in a few months, and the air quality at the moment is not that good. Might be due for a change.

It was done as a standard part of my 60k fixed price major service last year.
That was a $780 service though as they do other stuff like the fuel and air filters as well as service the transmission.

If you refer to your service booklet, it is noted as part of the scheduled service. Every 1yr / 15,000kms

Thanks Binny & ope126, did not notice that.
May put a little bit of tape in my glove box as a marker to confirm it is actually changed at the upcoming service. Would not be surprised if some dealers 'accidentally' omitted this from the service.
My fixed price 60K service is only $500.
MB, pre upgrade.
