Default Weird stuff you see while driving...

I was driving home yesterday afternoon when I stopped at a set of lights. Coming through the lights from the other direction was guy in an old Valiant windows down and with a set of big head phones on. Not talking iPod or walkman style, but a set like a DJ would wear!

I have seen some stupid stuff over the years; a fourby drive into a new mini due to road rage, a guy trying to do a u-turn on the Gateway bridge, causing almost a head on accident etc. but this guy took a big slice of the 'Idiot cake' and happily munched away. This seems to be a scary trend lately, as it has happened more than once that I found myself driving behind someone, thinking "what the hell is he/she doing?"

Left me wondering what others have seen while trying to commute.

95% of people dont know how to indicate around a roundabout, and will slow right down start to make a turn and then flick on the indicator. Weird how these people got their license.

This issues is not so weird as it is frustrating. This really annoys me, seeing as most people here in newcastle dont know how two lanes of traffic merge either...

Or the fact that a roundabout has two lanes that go straight ahead, they for some reason think that it means, left goes left, right straight ahead.

Seen a two tone pink/black VN the other week

VN wagon yesterday with a canon and matt black (possibly spray can) paint job

A guy at work had all his rear side and rear windows smashed, so he put cardboard over them for 2 weeks!!

I nearly hit one the other day. I was approaching a small roundabout going straight ahead, and an Excel was coming from the other side appearing to go straight ahead. Instead he turned right with no indicators meaning I had to jump on the anchors to avoid him. He just looked at me, no apology, wave or anything. How hard is it to flick a little lever just behind the steering wheel?

I also see an old woman (probably around 80) around the Clayton area who always walks around with fairy wings on her back.

MOST people DON'T indicate properly, or at all *deliberately*, driving poorly IS a national pastime when you have so few highway patrol.

Besides, "show me the figures/stats - that say indicating saves lives and prevents crashes", or, that not indicating causes trauma et al. Told to me by a roads fella once. Speed is it you see.

Yeah but they finally caught me...

There is some crazy stuff happening out there at the moment. I witnessed a man shaving in his car on Fern Tree Gully Road a few weeks ago...and no! Wasn't an electric razor...I am talking full on going the Santa beard with the shaving cream :

LOL , I have seen the same thing on the new bypass over the princess hwy on heatherton road in Dandenong, some old guy in a blue gown / bare *** hanging out walking down the middle of the road over bridge / in a daze like he was loaded on morphine or something? , we nearly ran him over. We stopped and I led him back to the hospital, they were unaware he had gone walk about ! :

Heading towards Lithgow on the Castlereigh Highway and there's the highway patrol sitting at roadworks pinging speeders through the work site when they pulled over the VERY low sitting old Volvo wagon in front of me at the mobile traffic lights that were set up. Imagine my surprise and mirth as asian student types began piling out of it and kept piling out. Final count was 9 I think, not bad considering the back of the wagon was chockas with luggage.

Another time back when I was younger and sillier, was out bushbashing with some mates at about 3am one morning and came round a bend in the track just in time to see the dust settling around a horrible yellow Sigma parked on top of a tree it had knocked out of the ground. It was beached on the trunk, engine-gearbox-diff, all 4 wheels off the ground. We pulled up and fell about laughing as 7 bodies climbed out with the young owner of the said smegma getting out of the BACK SEAT saying "my mum is going to kill me" hahahaha.

After watching and laughing at them for 5 minutes trying to get the car off the tree we offered to help and the young owner made the mistake of giving the keys to my mate while I directed them to rock the car on the passenger side to get traction. My mate proceeds row the auto shifter back and forth through the gears and park for maybe 10-15 seconds with his foot flat to the floor ( I've never before or since heard an auto box clang and grind gears like that one did on did that night), before finding reverse and getting off the tree. He then, with it still flat to the floor goes from reverse to first and dissapears up the track sideway in a cloud of dust and for the next 4-5 minutes all we can hear is this poor smegma screaming it's t!ts off and headights flashing the tops of the trees as he's doing doughnuts and the like up the track. He finally comes back round the bend, still flat strap, and in one motion puts it in park-pulls on the hand brake-switches off the car-pulls the keys and opens the door to step out, all before the car has slowed down let alone stopped, and as soon as it slid to a stop and ceased motion right in front of me and the poor kid who own it, my mate hopped out and handed him the keys saying " thanks for the drive" and we piled back into my car and were gone all before the dust settled leaving the young'uns' standing there gob smacked and scratching their heads. I laughed so hard that night my ribs hurt for 2 days.

Heard this on the radio just yesterday.

Chap saw a red Rav4 driving at 25km/h on the Hume Hwy in Bankstown. The person passed the car, did the stare and saw a lady (??) of a certain faith fully covered head to toe, had socks on the hands for gloves, and she was holding a wide brimmed sun hat across her face so other could not see her face.

I work in the area, not surprised in the least.

The roundabout thing drives me up the wall. People STILL have NFI about the 'new rules' regarding who has right of way, and the procedure for indicating during the entry and exit.

Also, regarding roundabouts, when it isn't a perfect 90 degree intersection, people indicate like their turning even though they are essentially going straight through... :

Oh where do I satrt the list.
Many years ago I use to commute over the Story bridge in peak hour everyday.
I use to follow the same car every other day from Mt Gravatt all the way over the bridge.
This guy always seemed a little erratict about how he was driving, anyway one day
I overtook him on the way over the bridge and worked out why he was always all over
the road. He was "relieving" himself. Guessing it was an everyday occurance.

One of the best but was driving down Ipswich Rd through the Magic Mile only
to spot a(I cant spell) Sudinease chick with full grocery bags all the way from wrist to shoulder
kid on each hand baby strapped to her back and a 30pack of Pepsi Max on her head.

Saw a Gemini go speeding passed me on the Main Nth Rd under the back you could see the vice grips hanging on the rear brake line (so he could do his little burn-outs)

The other day I was following a small hatch back when the front passenger door swung open, and a guy kinda fell out of the car....
He actually got a little tangled in the inner door handle and kinda tumbled out underneath the back wheels...
The car bounced over him like it had just been over a speedhump... and he tumbled down the road cartwheel style (his phone flew out of his pocked and smashed to pieces)... while all this happened, he managed to hold a cigarrette in his mouth (one of those special ones that are rolled with the oregano/parsley flakes)...
He got straight up, picked up his phone pieces... and stormed up the LH shoulder of the road, while the hatchback that just ran him over slowly crawled next to him...
he yelled something into the STILL open front door at the woman driver, and then he climbed back in and continued to whichever MENTAL INSTITUTION was closest...

I was gobsmacked and didn't know what to say to my 5 year old son who was in the back asking "why did that man just get run over dad???"....

We overtook them not long after, and as I browsed the front seat, it was all pretty normal.... like nothing had happened...

EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT HE'D JUST BEEN RUN OVER!?!??!?

Weird....

There has been a few weird things happen when driving..

Driving home with mates about 9pm out of no where a giant bright flash on the side of the road where it drops off an edge. Was clear sky and no other cars around for at least 15-20km. Was kinda freaky.

Not weird but annoying, Little old asian woman rides her scooter up the middle of the road. She is so small her feet can't touch the ground and she has to sit right on the handle bars. She always seems to be racing another old bloke in a scooter.

Once seen a fairly good looking young woman getting dressed while driving

Driving along in a mates commodore..all lights go out..SCARY

Only days after owning the xr, pretty sure the old lady driving next to us fell asleep, the girlfriend even commented " is that lady awake? " next thing you know she's within inches of my car and we're bracing for impact.. no hit, lucky.

There was a report (with pictures) on the front page of the NT news yesterday about a woman following a police paddy wagon. Pulled up at the lights behind it and took a pic of the bloke and the woman in the cage having sex on the way back to the station!!!

An ex used to do that all the time. We'd be going to the pub and she'd say she wanted to wear a dress instead of jeans so without a second thought would get her gear off right there in the middle of traffic. She certainly wasn't the shy type.

Haha gotta love the 'not so shy ex' that every bloke has had. I had an ex a few years back...and god, some of the stuff she did would be worthy of this thread, but they definatly aren't for a public forum.

Mmm, what stuff have I seen in the north...Oh there is this bloke who rides around on some old pushy, 3 jesus statues cable tied to the handlebars, an old FM radio strapped to the top tube, and he rides around everywhere on the back wheel...Just wheelies everywhere.
Seeing people singing while driving is always funny!!

Several years ago, just after I had finished my HSC, a whole lot of the people in year 12 in my town went out to the lake just out of town to have BBQs and celebrate. I went for a drive in my 180b around the lake on a rangers track or walking track, whatever it was. I got it stuck in mud, and a heap of the guys I was with had to help push it out. Since it was a fair way away from the bbq area, we decided to fit everyone who helped on and in the car. We managed to get 14 in and on it. 5 in the car, 2 sitting on the rear window sills with their legs in the car, 3 sitting in the boot with legs dangling out the back, 2 on the bonnet and 1 on the roof. It was a first gear walking pace crawl all the way, but the car didn't complain.

Weirdest thing I saw lately was a couple of weeks ago I was driving to work in the morning about half past 6.

I saw this guy run in front of all these moving cars and he he continued to almost get hit and then ran over to a bus station advertising of a "Picture of a woman". and proceeded to to bash the cr@p out it.

I just said "WTF and started to laugh".. was very funny.

I just remembered something from a few years ago. Waiting in the Safeways carpark at Seaford on the Nepean Hwy for my sister to get some groceries and a black commordore ute goes cruising down the hwy horn blaring with a dude standing up in the back totally naked. I'm thinking he lost a bet.
