Hi capri freaks it’s FordCapri72 here I’ve just recently bought a ford capri 1600xl and the rocker cover has 1600gt on it, the engine has this stamped on it 711M6015BA and just need some confirmation on it to see what it was, it’s also gt interior, I.e, purple seat belts, gt dash and gt rostyle rims any clarification would be good, thanks

When the Capri was released in Australia in 1969, only 4cyl cars were available. You either got the entry level ‘Deluxe’ or the GT 1600.
When the V6 was released in Jan 1970, it got the GT badge and then there were no more 1600GTs from then on. The range was then the 1600 Deluxe, 1600XL, and 3000GT. The 1600XL is essentially the same as what the 1600GT would have been had they kept it in the range, but they’re not GTs as such. The rocker cover could have been replaced at any time over the last 50 years, the number cast into the block (711M6015BA) just signifies a 1600 block made in 1971, and rostyle wheels were optional (not specifically GT wheels) and could also have been added anytime in the last 50 years. The interior you describe is what the 1600XL would have. Last edited by cosworthfreak; 22-01-2023 at 12:56 PM. |

Yeah it’s a 1972 1600XL, haven’t seen another capri like it, has 2 tone colour, wild violet body with ultra white roof from factory, it’s a 1 owner car and the old man was really fussy about it and it completely unmolested, and was wondering why it has purplish seat belts and the gt dash along with the 1600gt sticker on the rocker cover and the engine block stamped 711M6015BA, thanks for the information mate, here’s a pic of the car attached, thanks for viewing my add, hopefully learn something new.

Ring Ford on 13FORD and give them your Chassis/Serial number, CK30MK30525A, taken from your LFJ916 rego sticker that you posted elsewhere in this forum and they should be able to send to you a detailed page of your Capri's specs when it was built, with the options fitted when assembled. The only real unusual thing about your Capri is the roof paint colour of Ultra White.

Oh, well I can decode any Capri ID Plate but obviously I don't know what options were fitted at the factory!
