As we all should know buy now, FPV are releasing a GT variant in September this year...
Two facts are well documented. -Wider tyres -Re-tuned suspension Rumors suggest -New bumper bar, as per the motor show "black edition" concept (the panther product name hints at this) -More power, as hinted by FPV boss Bryan Mears, in a Performance Drive report Quote:
What do we call this? So, we have new model, to sit above the GT, now...what names do we have that signify this? Obviously, the one and only. -GT-HO Bathurst homologation aside, the GT-HO was developed from the GT, as a higher performing variant of the GT. Racing i here you say? Well, there is nothing stopping owners of a this sharper GT on a racetrack, and driving it how it should. Worthy? Well, the HO Phase 3 has fame for being the fastest 4 door of its time, a time where a coupe was the car of choice, in a way, it was a pioneer for 4 door performance. Don't let a couple of faster high priced German luxury saloon's become a reason for why it should not...but why it should. It's the return we all want, the lore and legend that is the Phase 3 wont change, but it will be drawn along with a new HO...bringing its heritage into a modern age. -GT-H Already trademarked by FPV, with many rumours linking it to a HO-like machine.. But GT-H? What's that mean? GT - Huh? GT - Hoon GT - Hum-Bug GT - Hairy chested, but not ballsy enough? GT - High Output Yeah, nah...doesn't work. -GT R-Spec Already used on the GT 40th edition and cobra. R-Spec hinted at a re-tuned suspension, and it does have a good ring too it. How ever, the name really never generated any real significance to it, no emotion...R-Spec is something you expect to find on Silvias or Hondas...

I like the R spec Idea. Though I'd be happy with something simple like GT 351.
I think GT HO should be left in the past.

i think its time. i voted HO.
i always used to have the opinion that the HO name should be left in the past and that if it was brought back it should be something like HSV w427 project, but then the more i think about it, i think its time. bring it back. the fact is, the original HO was nothing more than a tuned GT. it wasn't something that was forever untouchable. factory cars have been well beyond the HO's performance and handling credentials for some time now. bring the HO back. it can still be upgraded with each new model, as the p1, 2 and 3 were. sure, it won't have racing pedigree, but these are badges on car boots we are talking about. no one whinges that HSV GTS doesn't have pedigree etc. like i said, a big 'about face' for me, but i think its time.. |

I don't think the GT-HO name should be resurrected unless it is actually something special and would easily beat the W427.
Something other than GT-HO would be ok IMO. |

GT already creates trouble for the w427... Maybe with wider tires, the journos might be able to get the thing down the 1/4 and around the track better...

I agree leave the GT-HO in the past. Its got a great history behind it that cannot be matched in the some way. The new version need to make its own piece of history with its own unique name.
GT-H just doesnt sound right GT-R belongs to the skyline, it will always refer to the skyline But GT-351 i think thats the one. 351 has a great stigma behind it as a great old school engine be it winsor or clevo. Mention 351 and car people think instantly of the engine- thats exactly what we want. Up the output to 351 and use the 351 code to highlight what is possibly the best australian released engine yet. Fpv can do it, they can create a hero car with the 351 name and make it known |

Let's not tarnish the HO's legacy by throwing it on a current GT, it doesn't belong there.

Is the GT's name tarnished it's self these days? Would it be better of not being a GT anything?

Dont compare it to the w427,that was an over priced failure .
Call it the gt ho sounds good to me. It would smash a phase 3 on all levels except maybe resale value. |

the wd40 is easily the best all round muscle car to come out of holden or ford. and in a way shows the massive difference between the two brands. fords always played it pretty safe, cut unprofitable models rather than risk financial meltdown etc, where as holden seems willing to give almost anything a crack. cars like the crewman/coupe4/monaro/adventra/w427 etc while they may have been financial idiocy all served to keep fans loyal. im hoping this new gt or the next limited edition will be enough to undisputedly wear that crown. |

The first time I ever saw an "R-Spec" Falcon I was parked behind it down in Bundy...I actually took a couple of photos with my phone of the back end with all the badges on it, chuckling to myself, and was planning on posting them here for a laugh when I got back home...
...only to find out the factory made them like that...whoops...so it wasn't an Autobarn stick-on-badge-aisle special done by some numptie... |

Im starting to wonder why some people out there are so sensitive in disrupting the GTHOs racing pedigree.
It IS only a factory model that was churned out to meet homologation requirements. I see no reason why they couldnt re use the name. As long as its not a bloody sticker pack. |

Who said? I don't beleive there is anything stopping anyone running a GT (or a GT-HO) in the PTCC/AMC, under the Group E regulations...the same regulations that the Phase 3 ran under...

Dont stuff about and just call it a GTHO. Whats the point of making new names?
All other car makers keep their model names. The older HOs will always be classics no matter what happens now. Its a modified GT it makes sense. |

Was HO "High-Output" or "Handling-Option"? Either way, there are plenty of things that can be done to upgrade the GT, and plenty of options for some kind of track special. Increase the power of the brakes, turn up the boost, and tune the suspension to keep it planted. And for goodness sake, add some magnetic ride control, for tune adjustment.

if we can bring back the GT badge I don't see why we can't bring back HO
it would want to be a worthy car, but in principle I have no problem a new Falcon wearing the badge. I think the threshold of what warrants it worthy or not should be similar to that of the XY's and Dubs I think the GT335 has earned it's GT badge more than any other modern GT (biased much) As I think someone said in another thread that no matter what they do with the HO some people will sook that it is too dear or not different enough (probably broke people too) |

(I didn't vote, cause we don't know enough about the car yet to know if it is worthy of the crown)
