Default South Coast to Newcastl

ok im going to be travelling between south coast (shoalhaven) and newcastle a fair bit this year and need to no the quickest and easiest way to get between the two. I am willing to purchase an E-tag or E-pass or watever as ive heard there is a motorway/freeway which is quickest but doesnt have any toll booths on it and only uses electronic methods......

can anyone give any information....thanks

I had a quick look on Where is and they say the quickest is straight though Sydney which I think is BS. They have the trip to Wahroonga as 116k 1hr 10 mins from S/haven. I think this part is BS. Going via Cambeltown they have the trip as 117k and 1hr 10 mins which is much more realistic because of the amount of free/motorway. You will need etag for M7 and M2 which will cost about $15 each way I think. This way is by far the easiest drive while the way through Sydney/Ryde etc would involve 50 sets of lights. You would know the best way through to the Hume/ Cambeltown freeway from your place so get on where is and have a look. My choice would be freeway/M7/M2 Pennant hils Rd. Good Luck.

Whats the new road that opened up recently? The F7? I'm sure it something-7...guys at work do the trip from Nowra to Newcastle frequently, and using that road is by far the fastest way...not sure the quickest way to get to it though through Sydney.

I would probly go up appin road across to the M5 - then onto M7/M2 Pennant hils Rd as said above

option 2 up the freeway from the gong to heathcote rd, back out to m5 then M7/M2 Pennant hils Rd.

Both those ways are eayser with less lights to stop at! Could be just longer travel time as there is more KMS.

In the middle of the night, yeah, it probably is quicker going straight through... But at any other time...go the M7.

These would be the 2 main ways I'd travel.

If you can ... do it during the night ... and don't time your trips to hit the M5 during peak periods ... it's hell at the best of times.

Oh ... and watch out for an unmarked Black Turbo Territory doing the rounds of the M7 as well.
