Default Perth meet (Yep all 3 of us!)

Well we finally all caught up on the same day to watch Nick fly the focus flag at the local Autokhana. He was kind enough to take me around as a passenger on his final run. Not having ever been out on a race track, I've never been able to drive my car on the absolute limit, and I was amazed at what the focus (especially one with trick suspension) is capable of doing.

Anyway we took the opportunity to get some pics while we were there.

Great pics, I must say I never liked white foci but that one is a real stunner, and the wheels suit it really well.

I think I just found new love for my Focus.........cant get rid of it yet......

Yesss, Nick's Focus does punt it hard around the track, a little too hard causing him to lock up and understeer :.

We had a good chat at KFC too, it felt like it went for like 2 hours nearly lol. Well worth the drive up to Belmont. Hope this will spark up some interest in other Focus owners in Perth, LR or LS

It is actually 'ink blue', but yes that's the "track" car. It has full whiteline suspension and koni adjustables....and like Jeremy Clarkson once said of the RS, it goes around corners like it's in a cartoon.

I am the master of the dumb question. The ones that others are afraid to ask.

Can you explain autokhana to us? I've never seen or been involved in one and would love to know more (in fact had never really heard of one til this thread)

I don’t know a lot about them myself, but from what I have observed you get yourself a big car park and litter it with 'witch’s hats' to make something resembling a circuit. Then it's a single lap race against the clock as you go tearing around between the cones. At the finish line you have to stop within a small designated area (so good brakes are also handy) before the clock stops. Essentially, it's all about setting the best time and it's probably more about good handling than straight out grunt (although it helps to have both).

The hats are rearranged once all the competitors have completed their lap to make a new course and away they go again….After completing all the circuits set out, you get an overall time.

From what I understand, the winner is not necessarily the person that sets the fastest aggregate time. The performance attributes of the car such as engine size, NA or turbo engine etc are taken into account, hence people winning on handicap.

Hope this very simplistic account of what happens, helps. I’m sure someone else will be able give you a much more accurate account of what really does happen, but I thought I’d give the basic idea behind it.

When i finish tricking up my suspension, i think ill be giving it a go at the autokhanas. It looks to be pretty fun and theres a reasonable amount of room for error if i get a bit too eager hehe.

Should organise a day one day where all Ford owners from these forums come down for a try. Would be a great get together.

Tom

I agree to what orsest170 said plus I might add that
-for hitting a cone you get 5sec penalty .
-for going the wrong way your time will be taken from the fastest car on that run plus 15sec.
-Also 5sec penalty if you overshoot the garage at the end.

If anyone in Perth is interested in doing this sort of event give this guy an
e-mail:

You will Need a car club membership of some sort and a CAMS L2NS licence.
