And meet my new security device. :
Some @rsehole was kicking the shit out of this beautiful dog today and let him run onto a main road. When he was asked what he was doing, he said keep him, he's an idiot. So far he's pretty damn intelligent and STRONG. Now to stock up on the dog food and get some cotton wool for my ears because he has one hell of a bark. Hrmm... I wonder what will happen when someone tries to get into my backyard or house now? :MrT_anim: I think he's half Staffy and half Mastiff, anyone else got any ideas? I'll take him to the vet next week for heart worm tablets and a check up etc.

That is disgusting, what that guy did to his dog. I dont care how badly an animal behaves, there is no excuse for that sort of thing, kicking animals!!!! That makes me sick actually, hearing it. Something about cruelty to animals really ****es me off.
I am glad you found him guys, and that he has gone to a good home. Perhaps that was his destiny. I hope he serves you well too, as a security device, but I am sure he will! He is gorgeous too!

looks like a good dog. seems since he has been abused that if one day you find yourself in trouble and youve been treating him right he may just jump in to protect you (coz he loves you).
how old is he? |

Shame about what some animals have to go through.
However I’d be careful with that breed of dog (for your sake, not an intruder)... I assume the previous owner didnt have obedience training on their list of priorities.

I'd be careful and think about the obedience training as well. From what Ive heard, if that dog has suffered abuse for an extended time, it may not trust people that well...
Play gentle for a while

Everyone has been told easy at first so he knows that he's safe here and he's not going to get hit or kicked. No rough housing between each other in case he thinks that it's for real. I'll be taking to obedience training, it's only a short walk from here (if I can hold him that long. :P). I guess the Vet will be able to tell me his age, I'm guessing about one and a half years old. He seems pretty content for the first night.. so far, he's just wondering around the back yard sniffing and chewing an old shoe of Kyle's. Occasionally having a look through the glass doors to make sure there is someone still around. :

I agree with BlueRaven. Im a Rottwieler owner
Be wary & also keep a close eye on the dog when its around the kids... Sorry but its much better to bring the dog up from a pup, where it can grow around kids. I do hope this works for you tho!!!

looks like a rhodesian ridgeback cross staffordshire bull terrier to me, and if anyone asks, thats what you say. Its too easy for some retard to say its a pit bull terrier, and cause alot of heart ache for you mate, specially with councils. Keep him safe, treat him well, and he will keep you safe and treat you well too.

Sounds like some kind of divine intervention, Poor dog needed your help to get away from it's idiot owner, And you could benefit from it being around in the case of your neighbourly problems returning. Hope that everything works out for the best with your new mate, a little bit of love and affection and he'll learn the difference between friend and foe.

There's no better security at home, than a faithful pan-licker! Keeping them faithful is not hard, I lost a good german shep because she was too devoted (Saved her from an abusive environment). Won't go there!

OK,I've read some very good advice in this thread regarding the dog.May I please just add some of my own.
1. Make him part of the family,if he is the only dog make sure he is house trained and let him in the house to be part of the family.Give him a bed and special place to sleep in the house.I would reccomend getting a companion for him for when your not home,as he is likely to become bored and dig up the yard,a few doggie toys will also help to prevent this. 2.Definately go to obedience school this will help to socialise the dog with other dogs and people,if they are a good club they will teach you to train your dog ,not train your dog for you. 3. Always reward him when he does what you want, initially this will be a food reward which is gradually reduced to a verbal and touch reward..eg good dog and pat on shoulder or other non threatening site. I could go on for a lot more but if you need more info just ask,I was involved in dog training for a few years. p.s. he also needs to know that he is not the pack leader,I'm sure the club will explain this.

some excellent advice above. especially on the training. looks like a lovely dog and well done for saving him.
however, i do have one issue with your behaviour today.... WHY DIDNT YOU RUN THE GUTLESS PR*CK DOWN? sheeeeeesh.....you could at least have injured him....nothing too big, just something simple like a screwdriver through the ankle or something.... |

Yeah def got staffy/mastive maybe some ridgeback, looks just like my ol'fat'dawg when she was younger(she's10yrs). Its more staffy than anything else, you'd know if it was a mastive coz it'll be bigger than you... and a ridgey has as the name implies a dark brown raised stripe down its back that has a "knotty like" bit above the tail.
All 3 of these breeds are some of the most loyal pets you can get, they make great family dogs. |

Awesome score Nik's, shame about the circumstances in getting him/her. John McMasters idea in his post is so a great option to take and I'm sure (unnamed pooch) will have an awesome life with ya's and at least now you can have a little piece of mind ay.
And great job on the adoption of woteva his/her name is. Might have to start a new thread on dog names now. |

Thanks John and everyone else for all those tips, I'll be sure to take heed of them, although being such a big dog I don't know if I'd be able to afford a companion for him. If the kids left him alone long enough, I'd be able to tell if he was getting lonely or not.
He doesn't seem to dig, well he didn't last night, he just likes to chew on everything and anything he finds. So I'll get a bottle of no chew spray and some toys for him. I got up this morning after his first night here (he was quiet all night), and he seems to like head butting the punching bag. LOL! Maybe he was just letting out some aggression. :hihi: Yes he does have a name, his name that his previous owner called him was Max. We're still deciding on a second name for him, either Max Power or Max Payne. I still can't believe how intelligent this dog is and how someone could just let him go the way he did. Oh well his loss, he seems very happy here. :1syellow1 Oh and he's definitely not a Pit bull at all, he has the Rhodesian colours but none of the markings that you would expect to find. I think he's definitely Staffy/Mastiff cross.

Check if he has a chip or not, and get the details changed, or get a chip put in with your details, its the law aint it, ownership being 9/10ths of the law and all, in case the original owner decided to chage their mind.

Make certain of your legal stance, as by law, you can't just take someone elses dog in that manner, even if they have have verbally stated you may do so. You need to find out if the dog is chipped, and then take the necessary action to take over the dog. Good luck and I hope all goes well, and definetly do the obedience training. Rick.

Beautiful dog. Hopefully he'll be a loyal friend. But yes, I'd watch him around the kids.
