It so sounds like your cars pinging.
Try a tank of Premium to see if the rattle goes away. Chris |

Maybe the exhaust hitting the heatshield? Others here have mentioned that.

Best start paying the little extra for Shell V-Power. Or whatever the other companies offer. Oh and try the lil timing advance trick thats been in threads here.

yes it will run on 91, but it will run better on premium by far.

Then it'd always be pinging!
Heh...But seriously, if it's pinging, the knock sensor isn't working properly. They way they get around having to run these cars (and many others) on certain grades of fuel is by having the knock sensor detect ping, and retarding the timing (and sometimes the cam advance) to compensate. If the car's pinging (and badly enough that you can hear it in such a well insulated car), then you've got serious problems, and you could risk melting a piston. Things to check: How old is the car? What kind of condition are the spark plugs in (and are they OEM spec?) Is the ECU recording any faults? (it should if it's pinging) You can try running a tank of injector cleaner, but i don't think it'll do much... RM.

Mullett, the LS is well known to have the pinging problem, it looks like it was solved in the LT.
I think every LS driver that has this problem has reported to their dealer which have basically said "tough, run it on Premium."

Doh! Corrected twice by the same guy
I guess if premium fixes it, that's the solution. Is Europe like Japan, with a minimum RON of 95 or so? RM.
