Hi all just wondering if the BDA and Lotus built 1600's were ever sold in australia? im lookin at various mk2 escorts and there is so much choice with engines that im a bit lost..the pintos seem to be the most available so far but ive heard the 1600 and 1800's are the pick of the bunch so any help or personal experiences would be much appreciated

A BDA Escort? Hmm.. They are one of THE most rare and expensive old Escorts money can buy, the RS1800 is even more so. If you seriously looking to buy one, click here for a MK1 BDA that's for sale. When it was first listed for sale, the asking price was near $75'000. Currently owned by someone named Jim Richards, a motorsport legend apparently.

Unless you have money to burn and something decent to put it in the BDA's and to a lesser extent Lotus Twin Cams are a but of a flat-cap novelty. You can't really go wrong with a pinto. They are cheap, easily tunable and pretty strong.....Thats why they are still being raced and winning 35 years on.

Lotus and BDA motors are BIG $$$ both to buy and to keep running. There were no factory imported BDA engined Escorts in Australia also, any that are here have been privatly imported, but there were Lotus engined escorts assembled here.
If your not worried about originality id go for a Zetec or Duratec engine over a pinto... 200HP is VERY easy to get out of these a fair bit lighter than a pinto. |
