Not longer than a week. Drove it once with air in the front calipers (long story, soft as hell pedal, bad in the wet) but bled them the next day.
Unless you count the oil leaks as unroadworthy, I just think of them as proof it's really a Ford. Actually, come to think of it, my windscreen has no chance of passing a legit RWC. Most cars would fail a road worthy check I'd say. One of the loan cars at work would, I put a chip in the windscreen while it still had it's first tank of fuel in it. i'm sure most people have. I know my car would deffinately need a few things to pass a RW.
So I guess my answer is, Yes. or do you mean unregistered and un RW ? |

i mean just unroadworthy, the car is still registred in my hypothetical example
my past experiences include too low, too loud, 351 XF holley carb no pollution etc, bald tyres ,no handbrake,cracked windscreen, etc definate safety issues i always fix quickly, tyres too wide etc i dont worry about much, but am carefull in the wet as they aquaplne easier, suspension too LOW i have not had a saftey concern with other than running over speed humps(propper springs i mean not grinder lowered ones). |

Unroadworthy as in dangerous to other road users or technically unroadworthy ala the Vic police definition?

id have to say its a yes for me.
my windscreen has a crack in it, and i need a few bushes replaced here or there.... these are enough to call my car unroadworthy id imagine. it isnt unroadworthy to the point of it being dangerous to other road users though, id park it if it was that bad..... |

Yup, done it but then again, every has and probably didnt know it.
Have I driven one that is EXCESSIVLY unroadworthy.. yes, but I fixed it as soon as was practical.

yep i have and still am. got 2 baldish tyres on the van (1 front, 1 rear) and no work at all for 4 more weeks. Fairlane has 2 baldish tyres as well, electric windows that dont work and the ventilation system wont come off the windscreen.
im sure you could probably find something else on both cars. |

I like most have too.
However like most others I have not driven an excessivley unraodworthy vehicle for that length of time knowingly. anything to do with a brake problem and the car stays put till its fixed. does not matter how good or bad a car goes, looks,or even rust, if it does not stop your screwed.

*hangs head in shame* I drove unregistered for 11 months before being caught out, cos I couldn't afford to fix what was wrong and pay for rego...
I got pulled over for an RBT and he happened to check my rego sticker :( And then whacked me right before Xmas 2003, deservedly so, with $460 for driving unregistered and $460 for driving uninsured. Well it took a while, using bus/train/walking, before I could pay off the fine, pay for the things to be fixed AND pay for rego... But on the good side, my car rego is no longer on the 4th Jan (right after Xmas is an awful time to pay out for rego!)... it's March

But the tyres sucked before they got worn anyway. Got another 30 000 left in em yet! If anyone buy me drove the car, I would have these things fixed. But with just me behind the wheel, not fixing these problems seem somehow justified.

I drove my BA XT with rear tyres which were almost bald. The Ford dealer wanted to change the rear tyres at the 19,000km mark. I kept driving on them until I had them changed at the 30,000km service. They were so bad that in the wet it was wheelspin and sideways action at the slightest prod of the accelerator. I drove very slowly in the corners as it felt like the car wanted to swap ends in the wet.

I think everyone has driven in an unroadworthy state at one time or another. Even no water in the windscreen washers is unroadworthy.
I have never had a car that I can remember that was really unsafe .. but cracked windscreens are fixed within a few days, I never let brakes hit metal or anything like that. |

Well it's hard not to being that low washer bottle is concidered unrwc...
But I never drive dangerously unrwc! ie, low tyres or brakes, etc

ok back on topic, I haver just recently brought my car and when I first cleaned it I noticed:
- rear dimsiter isn't connected - parcel shelf has holes for 6x9's cut in it (good for me though..lol) - only fans that work in the f^%ker are the front demisters, and they are **** poor at best - while they are not unroadworthy, the sly dog put re-treads on! Seriously the crappiest tyres ever and they are rated to only go to 110kph! ah! Other than that Im sweet atm. But my previous car..lol...I kissed a curb and drove around with a bent k-frame, upper and lower arms on the right hand side while trying to get a quote for the job. I look back now and it was a bit silly, but I had no choice, I took it to pedders and they made me sign a sheet saying that I shouldn't be driving it..lol
