Is anyone going to whisky live in Melbourne next month ?
It's on the 14-15 June at $95pp
http://www.whiskylive.com.au/melbourne/

1) What whisky/whiskey's do you have in your collection?
2) What whisky would you like to buy next?
3) What whisky would you recommend?
4) What whisky are you drinking now?

latest additions to my collection are 2 single barrel tassie whiskeys that the wife brought back for me. Can't remember the name of them but I'll take some photos of my collection and post them up - I'm primarily a Canadian Whiskey man. Dan Murphys getting Crown Royal premix in has been the best (and worst) thing to happen to me in ages.

I added to the collection this weekend with a bottle of Timboon Single Malt Small Batch Whiskey, it's made in Timboon which is a little place about 1.5hrs from Apollo Bay along the Great Ocean Road. The distillery is a great place to go for lunch, I was a bit disappointed as there's no actual vision of the process, rather it's more just a sales shed and a really good restaurant. Nonetheless worth the drive if you're in the area like I was.

So with that, my collection is:

Timboon Small Batch Single Malt
Rock and Rye 'Slow and Low' Straight Rye Whiskey
Eagle Rare Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Three Capes Single Malt Tasmanian Whiskey
Lark Distillery Single Malt Small Cask Tasmanian Whiskey
Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select Whiskey
Canadian Club Classic 12yr old Whiskey
Jack Daniel's White Label
Canadian Club Spiced
Gentleman Jack
Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey
Glenfiddich 12yr old Single Malt
Southern Comfort
Southern Comfort Lime
Southern Comfort Reserve
Crown Royal
Maker's Mark
Hogs 3 Bourbon
Jim Beam (just the standard stuff)

I also tried Hudson Baby Bourbon on the weekend away, very nice so some of that will enter the collection soon. I really like the American and Canadian Whiskey, my drop of choice is Canadian Club at the moment. After that I'd also like to add some Yamazaki and some of the other smaller batch microdistillery drops.

I have been a whiskey drinker for over 40 years and even did the Distillery tour in Scotland back in the seventies , however I'm no connoisseur , I can't remember the names now (lots of Glen.......) but there were many small distillery's that had some fine tasting Whiskey , I tried a 25 year old Dimple and found that the best for my taste buds but the price was a killer - I found that single malt whiskey gave me a stinking headache and that drinking the blended Whiskey I was always fine .
Now when I drink it's 10yo Dimple and for a real kick I have some "Bushmills Black Bush 50%"

got hooked on good single malt a few years ago. I was give an 18 yo Highland Park. Absolutely superb taste.
Current stock is as follows, most picked up duty free.
Fortunately, a few times i have been able to taste test some better bottles at duty free (Departures). If you have a good chat with the staff and know your whisky's, they are more likely to offer some good tasting.

Aberlour - 10 year old.
Ardmore traditional cask - age not noted.
The Balvenie doublewood - 12 yo
Bowmore Islay (slightly smoky) - 12 yo
Caol Ila - 12 yo VERY smoky
Isle of Jura Superstition - age not noted.
Laphroaig quarter cask - very strong, First sip was like rocket fuel!

& an 18 year old Irish Jameson.

I generally avoid the likes of Johnny red, chivas, etc. Just not my taste.

Young and stupid days were Jim Beam, now almost exclusively Jack Daniels. Have a bottle of Gentleman Jack waiting for my 30th Birthday.

There is apparently a whisky distillery at Corowa which I am keen to go and have a look at/try. Might take the wife so she can drive

This is half my single malt collection. The Dimple shouldn't be there though! xrystle, all my 'Glen's' are at the back. My favourite drop? Easily has to be Lagavulin.

I've been a whiskey drinker since I had an accountant tell me that it was ok to claim alcohol as a tax deduction as long as I only claimed each brand/flavour once. Product testing apparently. I didn't complain. Since then, every guy I've dated has been converted to drinking whiskey, or scotch.

At the moment we've only got the standard four bottles of JD in the house, and my bottle of Isle of Jura "Superstition".

I am planning on getting a hold of the rest of the Isle of Jura range in the near future.

Don't quote me on it, my old accountant could get a tad creative
but you know, product testing. Need to know what to recommend to customers somehow ;)

I looked into this a while ago now, I can't remember the exact process but the end result was that a bottle may cost $100, but you'd spend $200 getting it here. So it wasn't exactly feasible, because the process was set-up for businesses that had the intention of buying in bulk.

I've started to troll the German, Italian and UK sites for the same bottles that have been exported from the States. This has yielded some success, but it is a very time consuming, intensive task.

Best advice I could give would be to comb through Canadian alcohol sites because they're not hampered by the same laws.
