Default What's your favourite sounding euro V8?

Heard an Audi S5 this morning - even burbling about at low speed with a standard exhaust I reckon it sounded better than my XR8 at full noise...

An insanely deep, velvety note overlaid with a cammy whine.

My next favourite is the SL55 motor - that thing sounds like Armageddon!

I don't understand how they can get the note so deep from only 4.2 or 5.5 litres.

They just seem to sound much more classy than the local stuff too.

The new 6.2 AMG doesn't sound quite as awesome in my opinion...

This. 6.2 though isn't it, they just badge it as a 6.3 because they're German.

Absolutely.

Rode in one the other week, sounds even better from inside. One lotto win and one of those is in my garage purely for the sound.

+1... awesome car, these C63's (and ML63's) are more common in my area than FPV's and HSV's combined. Mercedes must be cleaning up with this model.

Yeap that pretty much sums it up for me.

I pulled up at a ste of lights next to a C63 the other day, stop the music, put the window down and listened to him roll off. Wife thought I was mad but its just such an awesome note.

Im not up to speed with what engine they run now (were always Ferrari based), but the current Maserati coupe would actually be my next choice. Again one pulled up beside me and OMG, id take that thing over a Ferrari any day.

I dont know which one I prefer though, the bigger deeper note or the smaller capacity screamer both appeal!

The Audi 4.2lt in the RS4, The AMG 6.2lt is good but seems to vary across the models,

however check this out, not a V8 but still utter pornography

Ahh yes, the Quattroporte... Forgot about that one...

It has a normal crank as opposed to the F430's flat plane crank I think?

Hence it sounds different?

I don't really like the Flat plan fezza's to be honest - sound like two noisy 4's...

The AM V8 is a bit brash for me. As is the Jag 4.2/5.0...

Geez so everyone rates the 6.2 eh? Funny I just don't think it's as deep or rich as the old 5.5 - especially in the SL55.

Classic - yeah I'm always winding the window down to hear 'em - you feel like a pillock when they spot you - it's the middle of winter and I'm freezing but I need to hear your car!

I did the same thing Polyal, put the window down and listened...
We were on the westgate heading towards the tunnel...
When we got to the tunnel the symphony started..
Those C63's sound awesome in the tunnel...
He gave it a bit, enough to make everyone know he was in there, the smiles on some drivers faces were priceless...!

Clevo at 9000rpm.....
Most of those German engineered V8s sound the shiz. They just know how a V8 should sound.
Love it.

Mercedes Benz AMG E55 - with the S/C 5.5L V8 350kW/700Nm

Sounds like a WW2 Fighter Plane ready to strafe the countryside.

Its amazing that the Germans do it so well, must be all that heavy metal and death music firing them up as they have their coffee break with sauerkraut.
