Default Misfire

Ive got a 2004 zetec and the engine has a misfire for a month or two now. At about 2000 revs the car stutters, occasionally i will here a pop in the engine.

I took to alto ford and said it MIGHT be my high tension leads and they wanted $490 to replace. Ive called a few spare parts shops and i can get them for $100.

Anyway im wondering if anyone else has any issues like this with their engine or heard about someone else having this issue.

Thanks

Yep very common problem, it will be the leads/spark plugs.

Look at europeanparts.net for the leads, better leads for the same price and then get some good spark plugs.

The problem relates to water getting into the valley and corroding/fouling the plug and lead.

How many k's have you got on the zetec?

Thanks for the responce, replaced the leads for $89 it has improved there is a very light misfire every so often. Ive got 80000ks on it.

Some ******* keyed the entire driverside of the car and rear passenger panel, so its getting assessed on Monday and hopefully a full respay will be on the way.

Then i cant wait to get rid of it, its cost me too much money, well at alto ford anyway so i dont reccomend anyone go there as they are a ripoff.

ive had a ongoing misfiring problem since January, and only till about a month ago it got fixed

in February i got leads, sparks, and coil pack changed at $1200

and the problem came back in early June, and till a month ago i just lived with it

finally send it to a mechanic friend of mine and they had the car for the whole day

after figuring out that it wasnt leads or coil pack that was causing the misfiring, they were literally out of ideas

.....while playing around with spark plugs, and swaping them around, and starting the car, she purred like a cat......spark plugs !!!!!!! could u believe it

mate just take it to a garage a get them to change yr plugs (carefully) and let us know wat happens

Howdy,

Yeh i originally did the spark plugs but it kept doing it after the change.
After changing the leads it has improved alot but there is still a light mis at about 2000 rpm.

Change the coil pack.

I had a similar issue - sparks and leads were not the problem but the coil pack was giving out. My mech changed it with an OEM equivalent and all is good.

Thats what i will be doing next. I got the car back from the panel beater and it seemed to be better for some reason but over the last couple of weeks its crept back in not as bad though.

How did they diagnose that the coil pack had kicked the bucket? Its seems to me that ford are starting with the most expensive parts on the car and working their way down the list.

How much was your coil pack?

My 04 Zetec started doing the same around 1yr after i got it. Took it to ford and they charged me $400 odd to 'fix' the problem. Problem was still there, they changed out the coil pack after i took it back and its been fine ever since. Car also runs like crap on the e10 unleaded stuff. You can change out the spark plugs by urself too to save on labor. I typed up a tutorial on it a while back. Search for spark plug tutorial in the forums to find it.
