no secret that mustang and falcon have always been distant relations with many parts.
ford australia usually take something from mustang and make some changes. but do we muss out on the good bits or does ford australia improve the mustang gear? example? |

Yeah they should put a live axle in the FG to make it better...
Apart from some very very minimal drive parts, can you tell me what else is similar? Im happy to be proven wrong as im sure it aint much.

Gonna run some Spaceballs here:
Mustang: I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate. Falcon: What's that make us? Mustang: Absolutely nothing! Which is what you are about to become...... Works on so many levels! |

Given how well sorted the mustang live axle is, and how fragile the falcon IRS is I think I'd rather have the simplicity of the cart axle...

They might share a badge but really ..... 2 different cars. Lets compare an F150 vs Fiesta ... they both have 2 doors at least?

Aaaand what's wrong with an F150? Try driving one with a big aluminium box on the back with two beds and a heap of other goodies inside .. not bad really...... not as bone jaring as a Fiesta.

US Falcon in the late 1960s wouldn't pass coming frontal crash testing regulations so the new Mustang front end was grafted onto the Falcon floor pan and a new sleek top hat added to make Maverick. |

Didn't our Falcon also share subframe and hardware stuff with the Torinos and Comets of the late 60's and early 70's?
Hmmmmmm, maybe they will become brothers again, Hmmmmmm...... |

The Mustang started out as a re-bodied Falcon anyway, so it would good to see the two reunite someday.

If we're talking about the new cars, the only thing the Mustang has over the Falcon is better rear suspension. Do you see the Mustang with a smooth, torquey, low revving, reliable and great sounding inline six (in both naturally aspirated and turbocharged form)? Neither do I.

A lot of people still don't understand "One Ford" and I see a lot of Alan Mulally's quotes are taken out of context.
In large markets like North America and Europe, huge scales of economy are possible by using global platforms but regional vehicles are still permitted provided they use One Ford's existing engineering modules and suppliers. The question to ask are: 1) Is there a global large car that would work in Australia? 2) Would a locally developed large car cover the market better? 3) What is the best way to deliver, import or build locally 4 How strategically important is Australian manufacturing to Ford? 5) Does government funding change the equation? If Ford were building the next gen Falcon from scratch, it would be prohibitively expensive and unviable. Falcon already uses EUCD side door and frame technology, a common electrical harness and ECU is logical, we're already seeing global power trains with Ecoboost and V6 diesel, I would expect more use in the future, the I-6 remains as long as it stays popular because it was cheaper to upgrade than replace with a V6. I assume you’re comparing the current Stang to an XE Falcon?
Except the Falcon had better handling and a better Engine |

Any falcon or mustang built after the early 70`s the comparision becomes mute.
Both had different career paths and they went that way , Trying to compare the 2 now would be pointless.

If they are related, falcon is the fat cousin as the falcon is significantly heavier giving the 'stang a performance advantage. FPV have mustang bits like clutch and gearbox being same brand with different ratios. Ditto the engine is same family but different spec. Both the new 5 lite and the old modular 5.4 shared between FPV and GT500 'stang. 2013 GT500 to have 5.8 litre version of modular v8 in alloy with supercharger for 650hp. Shelby super snake versions should be 750hp+ seems reasonable.

I must be getting old as the words 'Mustang' and '6 cylinders' just don't seem to go together for me!

I just said that to my way of thinking if it's a Mustang it has to have a V8 and the sound that goes with it.
