Question Asko Appliances - worth the high price?

Anybody own or had experience with this brand?

http://www.asko.com.au/

Very expensive. But are they really that good?

Had an Asko dishwasher for about 8 years, couldn't really fault it too much, was just a bit noisy. Bought an LG direct drive a few weeks ago. Its definitely quieter and seems to clean a bit better than the Asko as well

Hi, we bought a asko dishwasher to replace a older model one. I've had it for the last 6 years it gets used at least once a day everyday. The only fault in this time has been the rinse aid reservoir which leaked, I replaced it myself, and it's been great ever since. Off topic at the same time I bought a 'Lofra ' cooker which has been the biggest pile of junk known to man. Asko yes worth the extra, Lofra I wouldn't use one if I was given one!!

Hope this helps

8yrs+ out of our dishwasher and still going strong - as above, daily use or there abouts.
had one clip break on one the spinning water arms after one of the kids hit it. They were very helpful getting parts out, and reasonable priced too.

My son has a front loading Asko washing machine, weighs a ton takes 2 people to move it.
He's had some problems with it, computer died and had to be replaced.
Don't think he'd buy another one going by his experience and what he says about it.
Still, there's lemons in all brands so it's a bit of a lottery.

Asko along with Bosch, Miele and a few others all have the guts made in the same factory then they go down a different line for an individual look. Stuff like the door, controls and shelves/baskets even then they part share.

Personally I'd save your money...

Same thing was told to us by one of the salesman at jbhifi, we were looking at fridges.
re reckoned out of all the different brands they're actually only made in 3-4 seperate factories.

Hi. Are you sure? We went with a front loading asko washing machine a couple of years back and they are the only ones where the door is fixed to the "floating" part of the machine instead of the cabinet, quieter and less chance of water leaks they say. Cheers MD

Thats one of the reasons we got ours. The second reason was it is one of the few that has a seperate hot water inlet. Most others heat there own water and takes ages for a wash. Been very happy with it.

We've had an Asko Front loader for about 10 years. Used daily washing the towels from my Wife's Hairdressing shop, and never had any problems or breakdowns.

Definitely worth the dollars.

And I can't honestly see a Swedish company sharing their R&D (or parts) with a German one, someone's having a lend of you.

You may be correct, but my research tells me differently. Bosch whitegoods are made in Spain and/or Thailand; Asko are made in Slovenia by the Gorenje Group; Miele are made in Germany.

Like a lot of this sort of stuff, it's next to impossible to be certain of a brand's actual country of origin. All I'm certain of is that none of it's made in Australia—except for Electrolux Home Products who are our sole remaining volume whitegoods manufacturer. Their Aussie brands are Westinghouse and Chef stoves made in Dudley Park, SA, and Kelvinator and Westinghouse fridges made in Orange, NSW.

I have a relatively new Asko dishwasher and in all honesty I am not impressed with it. It leaks water toward the end of each cycle, and doesn't seem to wash dishes that well - the daggy 80s Dishlex that was in its place before was much quicker and did a better job, and didn't leak. I am in a rental so will just keep using it until it blows up. Like European cars, their appliances seem to be needlessly complicated. I have an American clothes washer and matching dryer (Speed Queen) and it is a simple traditional design and built like a tank.

Not anymore, there's no Australian made fridges. We hunted for ages to find the right fridge that was Aussie made, it's all down to whatever stock is left in shops now if you want Aussie made.

My mistake. We bought an Electrolux fridge-freezer a couple of years ago, and it has the "Made in Australia" sticker. I didn't realize that their plant in Orange had now closed down.

On a similar theme, I remember a whistle blower in the whitegoods industry exposing several brands of front load washer that had different capacities ie 8, 8.5, 9 and 10kg ratings..

That all had the same part number for the SS drum...

Don't know if it's still the case?

Oddly enough, I picked up my Beko machine today. 10kg capacity and it is sooo much heavier than my 7.5kg machine...

I see that the Asko demand a pretty premium over the other brands, they seem to be around double the RRP?!?

Unless it had a whiz bang function or did something different I would buy a more mainstream model and splash out on the longest extended warranty and still pocket several hundred dollars in change.

I encountered this when buying my new washer, there are a couple of different models that are rated at different capacities, despite having the exact same wash tub and agitator. Apparently it has something to do with water consumption and energy star rating and is no real indication of what the machine is capable of washing. The manufacturers will say that a machine can wash a larger capacity to improve the energy star rating because in theory, it's washing more clothes using the same amount of water and electricity even though the machine itself hasn't changed.

I don't know much about Asko and likely never will.

As with most things which are overpriced, they're probably better than cheaper stuff, but are they worth 2, 3, 4, or more times the amount?

I grabbed an Aldi unit for $400 about 6 months ago and it washes the dishes.
Can't ask for much more than that.

Will a $2000 washer last 5 times longer and wash 5 times better?
Probably not.

I will say yes.
In the 80s I was sick and tired of washing machines only lasting a couple of years. In 1987 I bit the bullet and purchased a Maytag. It died in 2011. All I had to buy for it in that time was new rubber feet. It's replacement - an LG supposedly top of the range is already playing up. The cost of the Maytag was $1800 at the time and other washers were $500-$600.

Sure it happens, not often though.

Can get plenty out of the cheap crap too.
I bought a $700 LG clothes washer in 2002.
I've replaced the shocks and water pump myself for a total of $65.

It still runs beaut today.

We purchased our Asko dishwasher in 2002 following a recommendation from a friend who already had theirs for 7 years prior to that. Neither of us has had any issues with the dishwasher to date although the bottom plate rack has rust in it now. Subsequently we purchased an Asko front loading clothes washer - ditto. Therefore, would thoroughly recommend.
