7 inch wide....100%
Both the 16" and 17" rims on the AU were 7" wide. Can just make it out on the scan in the Exterior section: http://www.fordforums.com.au/photos/...cat=596&page=1

The series 2 had 17X8 in the tickford style & I thought the XR Tickford style series 1 were 17X8 as well.

I was only referring to the AU1 rims. Now you got me thinking. I might have to take one of my rims off to have a look. I always thought it was 7" as well.

Casper - I 100% guarantee they are a 17 x 8. If not, then this is my last post on these forums - cos if I don't know that, then I know nothing!

The 17's are definately 8". I fit tyres to them on regular occations & rim width info is required for balancing.

I concur with buickman, JCXR8 and AUXRVIII. I had the AU1 Tickford 17" on my AU XR8 and they're definitely 8" wide.

So the brochure is incorrect..naughty naughty Ford.
I want to put a 16x255 M/T drag radial on the AU 16''. I was hoping for the AU 16'' to be at least 7.5''. Toyota Celica 5 stud, they have a 16''x8'' and i have been told the offset may be the same as the AU, BA. What worries me will the centre hole fit.

As for best handling/performance the wider the tyre, even though it fits, doesn't necessarily correspond to best handling. The rim tyre ratio width should not deviate by much or a rolling effect comes into play.
