Just wondering what headers everyone is using in their AU's. I'm looking at getting the entire exhaust system in the ute re-done to make it run a bit smoother.

I have got a set of the Pacemaker PH4480 extractors. Not too sure they make the car run smoother though!?
More power rev harder proven facts but smoother well no its noisier and that probably makes it feel less smooth to be honest. |

I don't want it to run smoother like straight out the factory. Just better, I suppose.

I heard the V8 ones are really good and if I replaced my factory 4 into 1 headers with a set of the Hurricane 4-2-1 (Try-y) headers that I would get an increase of around 16rwkw.

The reason for this thread is to see what the most popular brands people use. So far, I'm leaning toward Pacemaker headers...

Pacemakers are by far the most common headers. Doenst mean they are the best, the vast majority of purchases of any item (from cars to computers to headers) is a combination of cost vs capability. Simply, the pacemakers are fairly cheap, provide fairly good gains and last fairly well. They are a compromise (which is a good thing) but, like all things, if cost is not a compromise you are forced to accept, there is better to be had.
Maybe the better question is "what headers would you get if you had the choice again?" or "If all headers cost exactly the same, what would you choose?"

In my opinion there are only 2 headers I would consider. Pacemaker Competition and JMM Race headers. Of the 2 I prefer the JMM's but either would be decent. I can say the JMM's work exceptionally well. Both are proven entities.
I seriously wouldnt consider anything else. Just to prove the point Jim Mock (on a vist to his workshop for a look around) offered me any set of headers from a pile of used headers going off to scrap. There were pacies, hiteks, genies and a few others. I declined, I would rather wait to get the best then settle for second best. Also, just on the term "best", I am talking about best for the VCT I6, a known problem child with headers. It that context, the JMM Race series were by far the best option for my car. I'm sure others will have different opinions.

The freight is actually pretty cheap, I think its about $20 to send the JMM race headers to Qld. Same as NSW. Talk to Useless, I think he got his sent to Sydney.

When I got the Hi Flow Kit sent here, it was something like $28. Being a bigger item, wouldn't it cost more for it to get sent up?

Your talking about I6 ones right ?
I heard the V8 ones are really good and if I replaced my factory 4 into 1 headers with a set of the Hurricane 4-2-1 (Try-y) headers that I would get an increase of around 16rwkw. Yep I6. I bought mine from Liverpool Exhaust direct. The guys are good there. I've also heard that the V8 guys have really good things to say about the Hurricane's tho.

Yep the V8's are getting results from Hurricanes and so are many other brands.
I got Genies at a very good deal and I spin 178.1 on the dyno. I wish I could try the Hurricanes and run to Spiros to see what the figure would be ? I have my doubts it would be any better unless it was a custom built full system not just a catalogged item.

I got Genies on my I6. I suspect they're great but I doan know for sure 'cause they were fitted at the same time as a hi flow cat and a Genie 2.5" SS cat-back system. But all the mods work loverly together and I spose that's what matters in the end. |

I got stock headers ... but will be going Pacemaker headers on the ute soon with custom 2.5" system all the way through ... retain the factory cat as it does the job fine.

I was looking at the Pacemaker website and it came up with the PH4480 headers as the Comp headers for the ute, just something I noted down with these at the bottom...
Will not fit column change auto Will not fit with factory LPG The first point doesn't matter, mine's a T-Bar. The second one though has got me thinking. I have LPG, not factory though. I wonder if aftermarket LPG is OK with it.
