I know some of you blokes wont care, but I think its a bit harsh to axe a good player after 16years in the club and over 300games to his name without a honerary farewell. Whats your thoughts?

And considering he was playing good footy when he was fit as well. I guess the problem was that he wasn't fit much during the year. It'll be sad to see him go to a different club.

Yes its a bit rugged by the sound of it. But if you're pretty banged up most the time and well over thirty... well maybe is time to make your contribution from another angle of the club. I mean, it was pretty sad to see Matty Primus playing in the Slow Down. But there's the case in point: from Power captain to the scrapheap– due to ongoing injury issues. Ben Hart's fate maybe was a realistic decision made by his club in his best interests as well as the club's I think.

It is a bit harsh on Hart to not be offered a new contract after 16 years of service, but if the AFC don't believe his body will hold up for another season and they don't feel he is in their best 22 then you can understand the reasons why.
I would imagine they would want Hart to stay around the club in some sort of capacity.

He would be good as support to the coach somewhere. His experience will be added off the field.

Its sad but unfortunately its the nature of proffessional sport these days. He has been a great player and a credit to himself and the club, sad to see it end this way all the same

it is a bit harsh but maybe his playing days are over he just has to face the facts. Adelaide have offered him a coaching role which is still good ur still within the club just not running out every week, lets wait and see on what he ends up doing..

Ben Hart has been a wonderful contributor for the Adelaide Crows.
He's been there since 1992 I believe, the first ever Crow to play 300 games (nobody can take that away from him) and dual-premiership player. However, he's been there 15 years. I mean, wow, that's a great career and given his fluctuating form and injury concerns, as well as the Crows already have Biglands and Hentschel on the long term injury list means they need to be shrewd in managing their list and unfortunately, I think it is time for Hart to go. Garry Hocking, Peter Daicos, Gary Ablett and Matthew Knights didn't want to go, but in going at that time, they are remembered as decent players, not old fogies struggling to get a kick. I think Adelaide had to make a tough call, but I think it was justified. |

Seems a little harsh, but I guess the Crows had their reasons. I just hope he isn't the scapegoat for Adelaide failing to make the Grand Final again. (Thanks to the mighty Eagles !).
Would they be likely give him a farewell in Round 1 2007 if he doesn't go to another club?

He won't go to another club. He has played for 15 years.
If he plays, it will be in the SANFL. |

Sorry, I meant as an assistant coach or something... his AFL playing career is definitely over. Surely they would give him a farewell next year at AAMI?

They will give him a farewell, of course.
The Crows I would hope would retain him, even in a promotional role. But once again, we'll have to see. |

According to the news on the radio and his father, he has gone away somewhere to weigh up his options and to clear his head. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what he decides. It was a bit harsh for him to be dumped but I can see where the club is coming from. They are working on developing younger players as can be witnessed by the young players that played this year. Douglas, Porplysia, Van Berlo, Knights, etc. I'm sure the Crows want to build on this and we'll probably see a few new young faces next year as well.
