mate go to rent a bomb, why waste cash on something new. If you can drive one of them well enough then you have earn't your license. Id go a Corolla.
But, why dont you get your first car, and do your test and practice in that?

renting a manual car without the correct licence might be dificult, most people either know someone or use the instructors car, I suggest have at least 1 lesson with an instructor to be sure you will pass and use there car for the test.

Agreed, I doubt even the dodgiest places would let you borrow one of their cars if you dont have a licence do drive it (and the you are a much bigger risk on paper for accidents). Go with an instructors car, 1 lesson to check you are ok, then the cost of one lesson to go for the test.

If you want a hire car, grab a Getz. It will cost you about $60 with all on costs.
If you suck in manuals, grab a mates diesel if you can, you won't stall it! |

If you know someone with a hard-to-stall car like a diesel of some sort, try to get that off them. My dad's work car was a 3 litre turbo diesel patrol and it was almost impossible to stall.

How long till you're off P's?
Not sure of other states but in Vic your full lisence isn't restricted regardless of whether you had auto or manual P's If your dead keen, instructor is def the way to go, should be cheaper than hiring a car, if you even could, I think you'd have to do a dodgy to get it, which means no insurance. |

Im just going to find an instructor with a mirage or something. The car I did my auto test in was a focus and I kept on flicking on the windscreen wipers instead of puting on the indercator. Crazy euro cars!

100% agree with everyone else, get an instructor to take you around the place of the test then use their car mine was in a new swift, pretty small and good handling, it cost 40 bucks for an hour of me driving around before the test and her telling me of all the tricks the testers use and to practise some tricky places and to use her car, easy and cheap as!

just book a driving test before you do your test, they will let you use their car, plus give you pointers on what to look out for.
probably cheaper than hiring a car anyway

Why the hell did you get an auto licence in the first place?
Like others here have pointed out, get a few lessons in a manual from a driving instructor.

Both my parent's cars are manual but I passed my test in the instructor's Corolla manual. I recommend lessons because the instructors have a good idea of what you will be tested on.
