Default Fairlane next to Statesman (weekend photo time)

Came out of a shop to discover this big ugly thing next to my (lowered) big ugly thing. Nice photo for comparison.

Did you say yours is lowered? Cos the stato still looks lower than yours for some reason!

I know which one I'd prefer though.........

You guys need a benchmark to measure "big" and "ugly" ..

My '69 Dodge Phoenix .. big and ugly (and not lowered)

Or for something a little more australian, big and ugly, do a search for Leyland P76 :hihi:

I know not everyone will agree with me on this one, but I think the Ford looks classier then the Holden in that pic in the first post.

225/65x15 on front 235/60x15 on rear It really needs 8" rims with 235s all round .. that's what happens when you have a big car .. wheels and tyres get swallowed up!

Dunno about everyone else but i prefer the Statesmen in looks, but the AU 6 still has the balls and they are a very comfy car! If it come down to owning one it would be a hard decision between the to, but id probarly pic a Gen III Statesmen :

If you draw a line over the roofs you'll see mine is lower and the AU has a much squarer C pillar shape.

Aww, Shockwave.....!! :(

I had a ride in a Statesman of this vintage once and while it was a lot more quieter inside than my AU2, I still disliked it. I chatted with the chauffer driver about it and he disliked them because the cup holders don't fit a water bottle like mine.

What a sick yank tank, Jav. Frighteningly wide. Reminds me of the film "Repo Man", although that was a Chevy i think.

Dauphin, i still like the AU Fairlanes, in particular yours with the 17s and would drive one as they certainly have the balls over the V6 Statesmen, but i just prefer the statesmens roundness... They are still tinboxes so dont be too concerned about what i said!

Just get some BA G220 centre caps for your wheels so theres no big holes in them!

Yes, I will get them one day. Do you reckon they fit? They are definately a slightly different wheel design. (I would think that the centre hole is a standard size for all wheels.)

Same rims, we had them on a BA Futura from factory and they were Identical to the Fairlane 75th Edition along with AU Fairmont Ghias and BA G220s.

Just got down to ford and get the G220 centre caps, they only cover the hole in the middle not the nuts etc.

Gen 3 in the VT2 was only 220kw anyhow as stock and doughy as a pig down low. I would say Dauphins AU would be not much short of that.
VX, VY, the Gen3 was a beast but in VT2 it was pretty average in comparison.

Yes but back in those days the AU was much more a slug than the Gen III, like I said power wise I'd take the GenIII.

EXACTLY, espcially considering what a couple of grand will do to a gen3. I am a ford man but not blind and yes i have driven both models.

So then don't forget what a couple of grand would do to the 302W in the AU :sm_headba

Is it just me, or is the Statesman wider looking then the Fairlane?

Definately not a fan of that series Statesman... the Grange on the other hand, just does something for me. Definately the AU over that Statesman...

I thought stateman's got sunroof standard... Sucks to be them.

I'd take a TL50 over a Grange. Fairlane's definately look nicer than Stateman's when done up.

Another award winning intelligent comment. Go back and play with your crayons until you learn how to be more tactful than a train crash. You are allowed your opinions but that sort of way of expressing them would probably get you punched in the face in many a pub.

Being a bit harsh on the AU Fairlane here, I think the AU Fairlance was the best looking AU design, followed by the Fairmont Ghia. Then again id prefer the WH/K/L statesman for the looks. But if were talking generally id prefer the AU motor, drivetrain, interor and suspension by far; seriously the AU was a much more sophisticated vehicle.
