Exclamation Bathurst 1000 moved to December.

https://7news.com.au/sport/motorspor...nale-c-3950030
This year’s Supercars championship is all but certain to finish with a rescheduled Bathurst 1000 in December after confirmation the Gold Coast 500 has been cancelled.

The decision to call off the Surfers Paradise street races was officially announced on Monday but had been flagged by Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate last week.

Supercars said ongoing safety and logistic concerns relating to the COVID-19 pandemic were behind the cancellation.

“To cancel the event for a second year is an incredibly difficult decision, but a necessary one,” Supercars chief executive Sean Seamer said.

The event, which was set to be held over December 3-5, is expected to be replaced by a rescheduled Bathurst 1000 - which will double as a season finale.

Supercars hasn’t raced since the Townsville SuperSprint in July as lockdowns in NSW and Victoria play havoc with the championship’s schedule.

The next event is scheduled to be at Winton, in regional Victoria, on October 2 and 3 but remains in serious doubt due to Melbourne’s worsening COVID situation.

An event at Phillip Island later next month was cancelled on Friday while a night-race event at Sydney Motorsport Park in November must also be under a massive cloud due to that city’s virus crisis.

Organisers are determined to still hold the showpiece 1000km endurance classic at Mount Panorama - which is a critical plank of the sport’s broadcast deal with Channel Seven and Foxtel.

The Bathurst 1000 has already been pushed back to a tentative November 7 date from early October but is widely expected to be held in early December.

An announcement on the remaining events for 2021 is expected to be made by Supercars later this week."

And if the NSW Premier lifts all restrictions with the 80% vaccination target reached the event should be
renamed the Covid Super Spreader 1000.

Imagine a Lemans type event at Bathurst - 24 hour endurance race.

We had two Bathurst 24hr events in 2002/2003, Monaro won both.

Well its 2021 so maybe time to dust it off and wheel out the 24 hour race again, hopefully this time a decent car manufacturer takes the win

I don't get the venom towards GM. What is so 'indecent" about them ?

There was a time when Ford & GM-Holden were OK. What has happened ?

There are many other carmakers who built car in Aust. At least Ford, GM & Toyota stayed the longest & they get the most venom. Go figure.

They only won because they cheated. They never put it into production. Calling it a Monaro is very generous. Never saw a road going Monaro with a 7 litre engine bar the 2 prototypes.

"Nations Cup Championship were required to use production based engines of the same capacity as their road going versions. However, Procar (founded and funded by longtime Dick Johnson Racing sponsor Ross Palmer of Palmer Tube Mills fame) wanted a local manufacturer competing for wins in the championship's top category and gave Holden special permission to use the 7.0 litre engine in the Monaro in order to better compete with the 6.0 litre, V12 Lamborghini and the 8.0 litre, V10 Viper."

As a person who lives in Sydney you should be use of that and the transition to stay at home forever should be easy. As I live in Qld, things are purring along nicely. Just attended the Leyburn Sprints over the weekend and it was great.

I think you have to be double vaxxed to attend these events. Sydney Motorsport Park has already released a statement that you can't attend without being double vaxxed. (not to go too far off topic, I know that the vaccine doesn't stop acquiring the virus nor does it stop you from transmitting it).

How do you even verify that? Do we just show our MyGov accounts on our phones with the Medicare vaccination? What's if you don't have a smartphone or a MyGov account

Supposed to be linked to your COVID 19 checkin app as well apparently. I'll find out on Saturday after I get my second dose.

Do they actually enforce COVID check in up there?

Can count on one hand the amount of times someone in Melbourne has asked me to check in through this whole fiasco, precisely once this year at a pub in Fitzroy in June.

If there are spectators I feel sorry for Bathurst. Double vaaxed probably be the only ones allowed at the race track, but the atmosphere and parties around town will attract all people vaxxed and unvaxxed from Sydney, so realistically some of these people will have the virus( could also include the vaxxed at the race). After up to 6 days and everyone mixing everyone heads home and the only thing left behind is some infected locals to spread it around 3 weeks before Christmas. What a great Christmas present Supercars are giving the city of Bathurst. If it is to go ahead it should be spectator free, but as newspaper article I read earlier this week said, when things open up a lot of companies will put profit ahead of lives. Sadly this event will be Supercars contribution.
If you think this is an exaggeration just read what happen in Sturgess Nth Dakota earlier this year after a large motor bike festival was held there.

There wasn't much on last year at the 1000. The town was fairly dead. A 6 day sesh might make things be a little crazy!

I agree with you though and I wont be going this year for the reasons you have outlined.

Yes true, but it reduces both of those markedly & your chances of dying are almost eliminated.

Is it possible for the moderators to fix the title ? There is a difference between to, two & too !! They mean different things.

A 24hr Supercars race at Bathurst would be awesome. It should happen. Just imagine how good that would be and how hard a race it would be. Remember JB when asked how it felt to win Bathurst in 94 as he was going into the Chase, he said “mate, what a race, what a race”. If we all thought 94 and 95 were arguably two of the best Bathursts in history, just imagine what another 18 hours would be like…

even if we are out of lockdown outdoor events will be limited to 5000 and borders will still be shut so its just 5000 vaxinated NSW spectators

its going to be way to hard to police who is vaxinated and its going to be a sh!tfight

i'm still waiting to use my grandstand ticket from 2020

however plan B is sorted for us, which is camp out at my brothers property, watch it on the big screen while working on our own race cars, dirt biking and cooking low and slow on the smoker...

i can't wait

I gave up on Bathurst years ago.
What is going to be it's relevance to Australian motor sport when we have no local cars built here anymore?
Gone are the days I'd watch it from flag to flag, now it's just a passing interest, if it's on I'll tune in for a while then go and do something and come back to it later.
I'm one of the lucky ones grew up watching it when we had Valiant Chargers, Toranas, GTHOs and Monaros.

Better value for money those days with the slower lap times allowing for a longer race. Though we did get a nice red flag a couple of years ago when the track broke up!

Hi Guy's
I went to Bathurst race in 2019 stayed until the very end of the race.
I hadn't been for a long time because i used to go with a group of mate's but now there married got kid's and some have grand kids and they didn't want to go.

I was a little disappointed "when i payed for my ticket and asked the lady " can i go up to Reid Park"?
The answer was "no" so i had to be happy with a spot in the grandstand on Hell Corner.

I am not sure if i will go this year as i am worried about COVID still. As some of you have already said "if there are people that have COVID and do go to the race the town of Bathurst is going to suffer".
