By the looks of the white scuff mark on the tyre, I am guessing youthful exuberance. ie mounting a gutter at speed, while showing off in the wet??

Quickfit Queanbeyan will fix it (legally). But if it's just a 16" stock alloy, buy one of the forums. You can get a set of 4 for $400 or less, so one should not be too much. Or buy my 17" Speedy spyders for $800.

I have a feeling that if you had a crash after repairing the wheel, and your ins. found out, they would not pay out....

They are stock rims? Contact FTG salvage. They might have one they can sell you.

I wouldn't be thinking about using duct tape on a wheel. Especially when its cracked like that. Would be a tad dangerous

An alternative is contact the company in Queanbeyan - Quick fit tyres, used to be world of wheels, they can repair almost anything back to stronger than new. If they can't fix it they will soon let you know but they do a lot of cracked, and severly damaged rims for the insurance companies. I believe the only ones that can't do have a special finish they can't match.

Would not be worth the $ or the hassle of fixing. Just get a new one. Run around with the spare for now.

I recently found a crack In one of my rims. (18 Pursuit Rims) I was told cracks cant be fixed by a wheel repairer for leagal reasons. I was told to go to any welding/machine shop and ask them to fix it with a tig.....
I will be doing this as Im not paying $600 for 1 new rim.
Not sure about yours as it looks pretty bad..

You can TIG weld a wheel, and it will look OK, but you will not get the temper back into the casting unless you are an expert heat treater and know the process.

If the heat treatment is wrong, it will crack again, or it will fail totally.

Ever wonder why race teams dont repair cracked wheels?

You can weld magnesium, you just need the correct pre heat and a Magnesium rod. However, the qualifications still stand on getting the temper correct with the heat treatment.

The only magnesium race car parts that can be successfully welded are gear box casings.

hey OZFORD i would recomend you upgrade your tyre type and size. i went bridgestone turanza er30, in 215 on the front and 225 on the rear, it gives it heaps more grip and now the *** end doesnt try and catch the front end around wet round-a-bouts, also braking is heaps better.

Yeah I tend to agree with JC. My old house mate smashed a chunk of of his rims on a VS commodore showing off in the wet and sliding through a roundabout sideways and giving the gutter a decent enough tap to push his entire diff across 3 or 4 inches, and smashed a chunk of the the edge of his rims bout the size of my fist. We kept driving on it for about 3 weeks before we got it fixed though.

I've seen rims 10 times worst than that repaired. The guy with the SS rims drove head hirst into the gutter and bent the front of his rims and the dish. Fixed em. As good as new

Nice job Simon ! ... As someone else mentioned above , just use your spare for now if it has the same kinda rim on it , then just get a cheap steel rim for a spare or something, specially if your gonna update your rims later down the track then it ain't worth buying another 1 . What speed did you hit the curb at ? ..lol

Sometimes the corners do sneak up on you. I almost hit 2 gutters last week in the Falcon. Last thing I need is to replace 19" rims and rubber. I've already had to replace 1 tyre

All ain't lost ! - you know how hard you can push your car now before you loose control ! ..lol , least it didn't happen on a busy street, could of been much worse ! .

"followed the curve of the corner and i THINK i may have accelerated into the corner!"

I like your wording , especially the "I 'THINK' i may have accelerated ! " ..lol

No major damage done except just a bit of a bruised ego by the sounds of it really ..lol ;) e
