I'm happy to do most maintenance on the MB, but draw the line at changing the diesel filter. A local diesel specialist did it for me, but charged $109 for the filter!
Checking prices on the Supercheap website, a Fram filter is $104 and Ryco is $52, so there's clearly some variation in pricing. They charged less than $30 to fit it, so I'm not too unhappy. But that seems like a ridiculous price for a fuel filter.

Yeah the fuel filter is exe considering it's a cartridge no matter what the micron size. I'm not sure where you can reduce your costs if it's not from OS. $52 isn't that bad for a fuel filter. I think my local ford mob wanted $78 for fuel and $50'ish for oil. I'm going to delete the filter altogether and fit an aftermarket one with water trap. Filters are cheaper again and more popular but you'd want to match micron filtration. (could be an option).
I padded OS orders on big ticket maintenance items (Timing kit/suspension/brakes&wing panel ect.) every time I'll add filters/blades to take advantage of delivery costs to help reduce my costs later down the track. That seems to have worked out well.

When I booked the car in, they said something about fitting the genuine filter. I might check what they did fit.

According to RYCO https://www.rycofilters.com.au/Searc...ar=2009&liter= The MB requires a 2666P https://www.sparesbox.com.au/part/ry...-filter-r2666p Just showing this site which has great prices for the RYCO products. Also, take these prices to Supercheap, and they will match. Just did this with my wifes Mazda 3, Sparesbox filter kit (oil, air, cabin) $60. The prices added up on supercheap were $100. Edit: Just seen that you've posted the oil filter. The orig comment was regarding fuel filter, i believe and that's what i've posted. |

A footnote to this. The Ford filter retails for the same price that I was charged, so that will be what they fitted.
But twice the price that you pay in Oz???
