Default Ford model naming rights.

I read somewhere on the forum that Ford has the rights to the GTHO name until 2012.

Does anyone on the forum know where rights for such names are registered?

I'm also wondering with the return of such names as GS; which hasn't been seen since the XC;just how long these rights are secured for.

Such names as Sprint,Superbird,ESP,Landau,LTD and even Fairlane could possibly re appear at some stage on a Ford,so I guess there are ownership rights on those names for some time into the future?

I hope so ,as I'd hate to see a Hyundai Sprint or a Daewoo Landau .

I'm also wondering how these guys are able to use the HO name.

Too late mate, Hyundai have already used the Sprint name on one of it's Excel derivatives.

Superbird. Now thats a name they could use instead of GTHO for a top of the range GT. Similar to the Super snake mustang.

Yeah, we could have a V10 Superbird instead of a V10 GTHO

I read a story once where Ford Australia were something like 10 minutes earlier getting to the trademark office to register Falcon than Chrysler were, they were thinking of using it as well. Was in a book I had years ago, "Ford Falcon - The First 25 Years" it basically consisted of sales brochures and flyers for each model, including special models, from the start up until the 25th Anniversary XF. I wish I still had it, or knew where I could find another copy :(

Could this thread be alluding to the possibility of a GTHO nameplate revival before 2012 due to a trademark cease?...
I can't imagine other car brands instantly jumping on old names, it would look stupid.
"nissan commodore"
"ford Getz"
"Holden GTHO"
Ah woops...flame kit on....

Won't they just be able to re register the trademark when it expires?

yeah that'd be the way they'd do it. I'm just saying though, no brands would do it even if that's the option for them. Kind of like sloppy seconds?

Question trade marks

What about the name Lancer like in an Austin Lancer in the 50s
or Morris Major Elite Mitsubishi seemed to like old English names
lets see if we can find some more recycled nameplates

THE TM (915957)"GTHO" is due for renewal on the 11-JUN-2012

The TM (893564) "MUSTANG MACH 1" is due for renewal on the 30-OCT-2011

And just to point out - Ford have not yet released a model using the "GT-H" TM (1251624) that they registered in 2008/2009...

While I'm at it, not too long ago, Holden have a new TM registered which im guessing is obviously for HSV - "I Just Got One" (1314385)

How many car companies have used "GT" over the years.... if it can be owned someone must, personally i think there's a bit more to "owning" the word or trademark "GTHO".....
Not that it matters, Ford has no plans on using it anyway... GT-H anyone??
