On a serious note. Formula One identified a long time ago that solid objects on the side of race tracks were asking for trouble. Although the speeds on public roads aren't as high as on a race track, the dangers or hitting solid objects such as trees or poles are just as real. I know that removing all of these objects isn't practicle but something must be done to reduce these types of accidents.

I know exactly where that place is. The adjacent roads along there is where most trouble happens. and where one place. that i agree with where the unmarked cars sit.

This is just stupidity.

We need a place where people can get it out of there system and not on the public roads with others in the car.

what track did they can? I know there were plans for one at Raymond Terrace for many years but it never seemed to go through.

I was brought up going to the old Speedway from when it was first named Jerlideree Park and long before they allowed anything public on it. the demise of racing in Newcastle is my biggest disappointment. Not that I live there now but if I did ... lol

Hitting a fence or larger solid object is often better as it disperses the impact rather than concentrating on and maiming the structure of the car. Sure removing all poles is not really possible, however, could it possible to implement a contoured springy material of some sort that sits in front of the poles and helps deflect the direction the car takes? I know this would mean big bux for the government though.

The only problem we have is getting the people in power to grow enough balls to target this REAL problem , instead of taking the easy way out by FOOLING the majority that they are attempting to curb the toll by targeting the easy money being speeding offences, of which , most are only by 6 or seven klms over as well as drink drivers! While I do agree that "DRUNK" drivers need to wake up to them selves the .05 limit is just another way of making easy money !

Oh man, after seeing that pic, i've seen what has happenned to people's bodies in lesser accidents than that and it is utterly shocking, maybe, they could set a campaign on TV where they release these images yet sensor the dismembered parts so the viewer can only guess to the carnage. Will scare people into driving carefully.

They tried that sort of thing with smoking with the pictures on the pack and on the TV. Doesn't stop a smoker. I still smoke and I reckon the pictures are dirty. My mate just goes over the picture in permament marker lol.

It's because people have the "it wont happen to me" attitude.
