Just wondering if anyone knows of basic mods for the 2.0 "Pinto" found in escorts and cortinas? I have an engine with stuffed pistons and needs to be robored but otherwise ok. What basic stuff can i do while rebuilding the enigne? I would consider spending up to about a grand and want to keep it N/A. Any assistance would be great, thanks, Jason
P.S. My apologies if this is a repost

Since the engine needs to be rebored and i need new pistons anyway, is it worth boring out say 40 or 60 thou and getting pistons to suit? Also from what ive understood reading elsewhere, are lightened pistons the way to go? This engine is to go into a not-quite-serious rally car (pics soon) but i only want a mild motor for now...
Thanks, Jason

Just bore to the next size up - don't get caught up in overbores.
Get the compression up to around 10.5:1 while you are there. Buy a "bigger" cam not too nuts though. Twin 45mm webers are great or better still just go for injection, it is really worth it. Do it once and do it properly and have a safe and reliable vehicle! Good luck.... |
