The Duratec 1.8 and 2.0 are as follows:

Tighten the cylinder head bolts (in sequence) in five stages:

• Stage 1: 5 Nm.
• Stage 2: 15 Nm.
• Stage 3: 45 Nm.
• Stage 4: 90 degrees.
• Stage 5: 90 degrees.

The sequence starts from the centre pair of bolts and works outward and on opposite sides. That is to say Centre LH, Centre RH. 1 back from centre (left and right) then 1 forward from centre (left and right) until completed.

The earlier 1.6-2.0 Zetec engines are tightened using the same order but to these specs:

Stage 1: 20 Nm
Stage 2: 40 Nm
Stage 3: 90 degrees

Please note that in some Zetec applications the Stage 3 tightening is to 105 degrees

Cheers
Russ

Since its a 1997 Mondeo, the engine would be the silver top (early) Zetec - not Duratec.
