removing side window skirts

just wondering how to remove those little plastic shields one the side of the windows. they are very handy because i can have my window down in the rain BUT i want to know how to take them off without destroying the paint work underneath the black double sided spunge like tape !

is there a special chemical i can use to remove this proply.

the reason im asking is because my mates xr had them on it aswell and he went to take it off and managed to take paint of with it and leaving residue behind.

any help would be great THANKS.

Removal of "weather shields" is the same principle as most stick on stuff...get the hair dryer out to soften the double sided tape and lift gently...I start it off with a plastic knife between the part and the bodywork and slice through the soft tape, then when you remove the part completely, warm up the remaining tape and most times you can roll it off with your thumb. Clean up what's left with eucalyptus oil then polish painted surface and you're done. Be careful and take it slowly and you won't damage anything, including the part you're removing...Cheers Linz.

leave car out in the sun for a few hours to, this will make the process much easier.
