Flooding

Hope none of you are too badly affected by this flash flooding that is going on in the central coast.

Pretty f'ed in my area, but our house got out of it fine, car fine, garage got wet thats about it. Plenty of houses (the older ones) around here got damaged with fallen trees and quite a few houses were without Juice (we got lucky, underground cables). Generally bagloads of debris around as well on the roads- so the roads are a bit of a mess, traffic lights were out until this morining and the Pacific Highway was closed at Charmhaven for quite a while due to flooding (was open one lane this morning).

But yeah still a bit of a mess around here (Wyong Shire), Gorokan (still with no electiricty), Kanwal and Wyong (still scattered abandoned cars at Tuggerah) looked to get hit pretty hard and the lake is still pretty high up. Should be reasonably ok by tomorrow or so, but i guess it will take yonks for the council to clean the streets and fill the potholes- Interesting coming around some bends, dont know whether to expect a pothole, a tree or a fallen power line.

All that being said i think its the Newie croud coped it worse all round and by the looks of it on TV, places like Wallsend got trashed totally.

if this makes you feel better, at about 4pm this arvo (wednesday) i reconnect a block of units power (at gorokan) they had been off since friday... one chicky there couldn't wait for a hot shower (didn't have the heart to tell her that she wouldn't get one until tomorrow)

i my property and family fine, i'm a bit worse for wear.. been out since 5:30am friday and only had the forced stand down breaks until tonight

Had a hell of a lot of water in the Hawkesbury with a bit of flooding as well .... i am lucky my property isn't dead flat ... and all the run-off went straight into the dam.

Roads closed here and there and plenty of debris around as well.

Shame about the family in the Falcon that fell through the road subsidance ... my Brother and Sister-in-Law were friends of theirs ... and they had been at our place before as well. Hasn't been good for a lot of people unfortauntely.

Yeah the business with that family is tragic. The road collapsed at that instant with a car filled with children- pretty messed up. RTA will definately have case to answer as it was obviously poorly drained the whole creek was diverted through one smallish drainage pipe.

I only drove over that stretch of road on Wednesday Afternoon myself- Somersby to Mt White and there is no way i could have guessed in a million years that only 2 days after that a 30ft section of it would be totally gone and 5 people with it.

a fair bit of water up here in maitland but i'm high enough. was interesting in the cab friday night. had one of our drivers silly enough to attempt 3' of water in his AU that was too much for even the mighty AU the car is pretty well F#%$ed but driver is ok and no passengers onboard fortunatly. I put my AU cab through about 18" a few times and no dramas. I had a high opinion of the AU before this but I was impressed with how well it handled the conditions. but it was all systems slow i wasn't going to end up in someones boot

. we also lost our radio repeater on saturday night so we had no base radio we ended up with a car parked outside the radio room window and someone running the jobs out to the car to call the jobs that was different! All in all the rain caused some inconvenience but it could have been worse

good to know most people got through unscathed. shame about the family in their car and the others with poperty damage. SEQ must have coped just the edge of it as it headed down south. we got a good soaking, but no flooding.

Just saw that AU that went through the road, and they showed a dirty great pod filter on it.

Mechan1k, did you have anything to do with that.

bummer tried to go in to drive a cab for state of origin night highway blocked traffic backed up on the back road would have taken a couple of hours to get through so no work tonight but i'm still better off than some so I shouldn't complain

I work for countryenergy, and couple of the other depo's told blokes to go home and pack overnight bags coz they'd be heading down there.

yep, apprentice lineworker for EA.

there were a few of your boys floating around for the last few days, plus some guys from integral, act and victoria.. on friday the storm i didn't think seemed that bad, apparently i was wrong..

all of our high voltage jobs should be fixed tomorrow, hopefully. then the low voltage, then individual services..

Im a mechanic in the transport workshops from Integral energy. About 6 crews from our depot alone went up there to give EA a hand. Even more crews from other depots went up. They said the destruction is unbelievable! Huge damage, they said.

yeah, there was some good damage.. for the first day or 2 it was interesting, but there are so many times you can see a huge tree smashed through the powerlines before it is boring.. i did see one house with a huge tree through the garage (put **** all over a series 4 rx7) and the house, i knew i should have taken my camera..

Well ... the heavens have opened up again ... lets just hope it doesn't hit the Central Coast as hard this time.

Seeing as everything is still waterlogged ... we are starting to get more flooded in the Hawkesbury now ... I managed to make it out to get to work ... not sure if I'll make it home after nightshift though.
