Hey all,
Well here is the story. I was about to leave my work yesterday at 3:30, when I put my foot on the clutch and felt some kind of creaking/cracking through the pedal. Anyway, I proceeded to try and put it into reverse, no such luck, it just grinded. So I thought to myself, it's the clutch cable, as I have had to adjust it a few times due to being streched. Went and got another one for $60, then I took a closer look as I was figuring out how to change it........................... ...............................STUPID THING HAS PULLED THROUGH THE FIREWALL!!! I was kind of expecting it to happen soon, the car has done 280,000kms and hasn't been reinforced yet. So now here is the big question. Does anyone know of anywhere reputable that can reinforce the firewall. I don't mind paying the money if I need to, I just don't want any dodgy backyarders. I have another car to drive for the time being, but it's not the same as the XR6. I'd like to thank the E-series guys and friends who came out to help me too. Dale, Scott, Mark, Amanda, Adrian, Rob, Dezza, Garrey and Tabitha. I was freaking out. Well there is my excitement for last night. Any help with contacts would be greatly appreciated.

I would have thought this could be a diy job..... piece of checkerplate on the outside of the firewall, as long as its larger than the peddlebox its going to create improoved strength, and the thicker or more surface area you go, the more strenght you get. drill a few holes in the right spots and it doesnt even need to be welded...
just bolt the pedlebox to the checkerpatete and it will pull against the larger surface area of the firewall and your good to go - i dont think theres heaps that could be stuffed up by a backyarder (unless they grab out the welder).

One of the forum sponsors should surely be able to help you.
I was lucky to get mine fixed relatively in expensively but some people have been charged in excess of $1500 from what I hear.

I've seen Joe fix quite a number of these ... mainly AUs as well. Fords aren't the only one that do it as well ... I knoew Mitsus were another maker that was known for it to be common.
