Yes they work, but the shifts are very harsh.

I blew my gearbox up on one of these BA shift kits my brother installed it as he is a auto elec, well very very harsh gear changers & after driving it for a couple of hours my auto start to slip & i couldn't get 1st & 4th gear, the guy i brought it off on ebay said that my gearbox must of been on the way out but i never had any trouble with my gearbox before,so i uninstalled the shift kit & took my car in for a service & told ford it's slipping & about 1st & 4th gear & ford Fully replaced my gearbox & said that they have put a BF 4speed auto in for me which is more Refined then the BA they reckon they had to adjust the ecu to allow the BF 4sp because of the improvements...Does feel better though.

I have one in my wifes car. It chirps second at 80km/h and its reasonably stock. Although the shift is very harsh. You will need to take into consideration your diff and uni's. I blew the diff in mine about 2 months after installing the shift kit. It cost nearly 1000 bucks for a brand new LSD but at the time the shift was cool you get sick of it after a while. But hey now the mrs drives it and i got my XR8 so i dont have to worry about it. Hahahaha

The J3 chip I got from chiptorque not only does all the ECU stuff but can change the shift points and shift pressures too. I got them to set it up when for normal driving its smooth as a cherry, on a whipped creamed, ice cube. But if you're up the rev range it snaps hard and fast, best of both worlds.

If you're going to get one, pay the little bit extra and get the fully adjustable one - that way you can liven it up or tone it down as you feel.

x2

I've never been in a car with the single or dual stage shiftkit. I bought the fully adjustable one, and can set it so the shifts are very firm but without any hint of "banging".....very nice. Im about to buy one for the EB Fairmont i am running around in at the moment.

The std shift feels like porridge.

I drove a vr with one, really improved pace, and gave you a little kick in the back. An adjustable one is definately the way to go, turn it on or off whenever you want, and adjust to desired shift pressure.
If too harsh it will damage the driveline and unis, if just firm enough it will prolong the auto's life and keep it a little cooler.

I've actually timed mine back to back running the shift kit on, and then running it turned off, and it only improved 0-400m time by 0.1 seconds - not really worth it when you consider the savage way the gears change. A fully adjustable one (I had the 2 stage one) would be better, as you could adjust it so that the shifts are just slightly firmer than standard.

I agree with this. I've got a switched one, but haven't bothered fitting it yet as it was a little harsh. Rather than go to the effort of fitting this one, I think I'll go an adjustable one at the same time I do the anti LHM module.

Either that, or an edit, which covers above plus plenty more!

I must be doing something wrong with my Auto. Cause I put into D when I want to go forward and R when I want to go backwards. Is there some kind of fun that's in between? I just thought Neutral was.

Nah bucky, you're not missing any fun. Fun happens in the backseat, and your's has a booster in the middle of it, so you've had your fun!

I think I was drunk that time, don't remember a thing. But heres a tip for young players. Leather in summer in a black car gets hot when you have no clothes on.
