Default BF XR6 Top Speed

Just seen a report on the news about a BF XR6 that apparently fled from Police at 250kph, are they even capable of that speed ?

Couldn't see an intercooler, so assume it was a XR6

Quote:
Terrified hitchhiker tells police of 250kmh ride
Tuesday, 18 September 2007

A terrified hitchhiker phoned police after being taken on a 250kmh ride through North Canterbury yesterday in a stolen vehicle.

Constable Richard Osborne, of the police highway patrol, gave chase when he clocked the black stolen Ford Falcon at 129kmh.

But he abandoned the pursuit when he estimated the Falcon was travelling at between 220kmh and 230kmh on the Balmoral Straight, just north of the Hurunui River bridge.

"I don't know whether they were trying to get away from me or just hadn't seen me," Mr Osborne said of his initial encounter with the vehicle.

"But it became obvious after a couple of miles they were trying to get away."

Mr Osborne said the incident happened just before 2.50pm and he was aware the speeding vehicle was approaching Culverden where there would probably be children finishing school.

"I was well aware of school kids being around Culverden about 3 o'clock. There's a lot goes through your mind. It's just one of those things. You've got to flag it (the pursuit)."

Mr Osborne said it was the car's initial speed that attracted his attention, not the fact it was a stolen car – something he found out later.

"They'd picked up a hitchhiker who said he was absolutely terrified when the pursuit was taking place. He said they'd reached speeds of 250kmh and were airborne at times."

He said the hitchhiker told police there were three men in the car when he was picked up and had given a good description of them.

The car stopped and let him out near Culverden.

Mr Osborne said police were still looking for the car but "we definitely have a line of inquiry".

Canterbury road policing manager Inspector Derek Erasmus said the highly dangerous incident was "absolute mindless stupidity".

"The problem obviously is it's a huge danger for the occupants of the car, for our police and anyone else on the road," Mr Erasmus said.

"Our big aim is we've got to get a (driver) like that off the road. We do not want a person like that driving because this indicates they are going to kill someone."

Manual says 220k for the XR and 240 for the XRT. So unless the car has had the limiter removed the report isn't correct. But if it was its possible as I've seen an XR at 210 with 2500rpm to the limit in fifth gear (5 speed manual).

So if it's a stock BF XR6 NA and they are in fact limited to 220kph the hitchhiker is telling porkies.

Indicated speed will be VERY different to actualy speed. I'm not explaining how I know this, having been a former XR6 Turbo owner with a GPS unit in it.

That plus were the hitchhiker was sitting in the in the car, the angle that he was looking at the speedo can make it look like the car was traveling faster than it was.

XR6, XR6 Turbo and XR8 have 230km/h speed limiters.

The FPV range have 250km/h speed limiters.

Is that with the BF range as My 04 BA 5SP starts to choke @ 205km/h

Also from another quote 220km/h @ 2500rpm does sound right or is that @ 4200rpm In fifth

Yeah that prob sounds right. All i know the car was in fifth at 210 and still had room left to go quicker.

But even at the limit the car still felt like it was stuck to the road. Its braking that the problem at those speeds with stock brakes.

I guess you would have to believe the cops estimate of 220 over the stoned bum hitchikers "250".
