One of them sold - an XR cracked $100k, sorry I can't recall the final figure but it has to be a record.
The Holdens fetched some big dollars, $146k IIRC for the LJ XU1 and $210k for the HG 350 - I reckon both were good buys. I tried to get a shot of the moment the Phase III set a record, instead I got the moment it was passed in... and the pic I got was not quite as clean as this one, so this is what I'm posting.

If it was passed in at 620,000 I'd say it could have been one of his bids..?????
One thing must be considered??? If you invested that money, you would get close to 62,000 a year without too many costs other than tax... He wanted or hinted at $1M .. I doubt it would increase in value at $100k a year ?? He has done o/k the last few years, but like realesate it has slowed down big time...

Stupid edit rule - the pic above is clearly for the auction of the '6' plate. I put it in instead of the Phase III pic as the one above is a better shot of the cars.
The '6' plate didn't actually go for $900k, although it could have done - here's what happened as far as I know. A telephone bidder went for it at $900k, but some idiot in the room waved at a friend and hopped it up to $910k. The hammer came down, and then idiot squirmed his way out of it, by then telephone bidder was gone and could not be raised. So later in the auction it came up again, starting at $800k - they'd tried to get hold of telephone bidder without success. It got to $895k and was passed in!!! I guess telephone bidder got a dose of reality after he 'lost' the plate first time around. There were a lot of people in the room who were chatting and generally being ignorant, I think Shannons could do a better job of crowd control. We came away with something nice

One more pic.
This is Jim thinking 'Why the hell did I buy an XB GT in 1976 when I could have paid the same money for an XY Phase III???' I have another pic from today showing him thinking 'Why the hell didn't I buy a Cobra GT before they sold out???' He's 86, I guess he's getting a little senile ;) I told him that the Orion series might see the return of the HO - so he's already getting all worked up about that now. If Ford comes to the party in 2008/09, he might just do it...

I mentioned that the XR sold, might be wrong on that.
Weirdest thing was the metal replica/model of 'Golden Arrow' - started at $2k, zero interest. So they dropped to $1k and it was bid up to $7-8k!!! I think the Ferarri wooden speedboat model was a better buy at half the price.

forgive my ignorance, but what is the significance of the single number plates, specifically, the No 6? - how can anyone justify that amount for a number plate?!?!?!
